no love for the sega genesis

Post by mas »

I first want to say that I love the genesis. I own the system. I have the smashpack on my dreamcast, I own the psp genesis collection,ps3 version also. I have noticed that lately though, My store that I buy games the genesis carts are bulking up. I asked a co worker why there is no love and his reply" was no one buys the stuff anymore. Everone buys nintendo. No one buys sega. Sega is not for collectors. If anyone buys sega they just want sonic and hockey(nhl 94-96). Thats all anyone ask."
I looked at what the had for systems they had 10 or so genesis system and every other system was one or two.
Now my only thought was could this be happening since sonic ultimate collection came out and other variety collections are out for the genesis? I mean is it just my area that doesn't love sega anymore?
I also think that people who are in college grew up on 32 and 64 bit systems and adults like me grew up on 8 bit and 16 bit and now have responsibility and jobs, kids, houses, chores, wife, and other stuff to where they have gotten the games that they want and just dont buy anymore and they just dont have that much time anymore.
Is there anyone else who loves that sleek black system that has high definition graphics logo on it? Hell I'm going to play some nhl 94 right now

Not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. All it means is that Genesis games can still be had for cheap!

Exactly, all the nintendo game prices are high right now, probably a good time to bulk up your sega collection.

My cib copy of Chiki Chiki Boys says otherwise.

You should do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of NHL 94 for the Sega CD. It's my second favorite hockey game of all time and I play it several times every year.

The Genesis was the first console I bought with my own money, and it was at launch. I remember playing Altered Beast daily with headphones, only because I thought the volume control looked cool.

Come to think of it, the Genesis may be my most used and go-to console.

There's two big reasons Genesis collecting is so much cheaper than SNES collecting: Sega doesn't make hardware anymore, and Sega's released so many huge Genesis compilations on modern systems. Nintendo would never put 30 of their best 16-bit games on one disc and sell it for $30.

I think a lot of thrift stores and flea markets charge less for Genesis games because they look cheaper: smaller cartridges, flimsy black plastic, they almost resemble dime a dozen Atari games to the untrained eye.

I love the Genesis. So many classic games, and so many titles I would still like to collect.

They really don't move as quickly as Nintendo stuff though. For one reason or another Genesis is kinda looked at by a lot of gamers as a lesser system than anything Nintendo has put out.

Yeah i dont get it. I always thought that sega had great games. Maybe if they never put out these collections over the years then it would of been a great system to go for in peoples minds. Here is what i think people are looking at when it comes to a genesis. "Why spend 20.00 on streets of rage 3 or get 3 or 4 titles where I can buy sonic ultimate collection and get 40 titlesfor 12.00 and still have money left over."

Does anyone think nintendo was going to make a series of complations like the nes collection and snes collection and said "why do that when we can sell our games on the virtual console and make them pay 5-10.00 a piece." I also think they know that people play a bunch of games on the older consoles and know how much we will pay for nintendo and super nintendo thru ebay and amazon. I really think nintendo knows this. I think thats why they never put out a retro disc. They know the value of the nintendo product games would go down like sega has
