Yeah, it slows down to about 5-10 fps in the same two stages, every time, and for most of the stage. Perfectly legit, retail copy. It's pretty scratched up, though. I guess it's either that, or maybe the forced VGA mode trick. I wouldn't think that would be the cause, though.mjmjr25 wrote:Your DC copy has slowdown? Is it bad? Have you tried using composite to see if that's it? I had no idea you could force VGA on itpierrot wrote:Yeah, it slows down to about 5-10 fps in the same two stages, every time, and for most of the stage. Perfectly legit, retail copy. Re: Hi-Scores; Gunbird 2
you can force VGA on most games using a boot disc. Like I have the Cheats N Codes disc, which has VGA mode. So (presumably) you boot that then swap to your non-VGA disc but VGA mode has already been enabled. I assume that's what pirrot's doing.mjmjr25 wrote: Have you tried using composite to see if that's it? I had no idea you could force VGA on it
Re: Hi-Scores; Gunbird 2
Actually, I do the ghetto method of plugging in the VGA box as soon as the game starts booting up. It takes a little practice--you have to listen for the right round of disc reading to know when to plug it back in--but it's cheap and easy.
I guess I'll try it out with composite later, to see if it still has the same slowdown.

Yeah. I tried forcing VGA on Gunbird 2 once, and it didn't like it. There was massive slowdown for me too by doing that.
That was using the boot disk method, but I'd suspect it's the same...

Re: Hi-Scores; Gunbird 2
So, it was indeed forced VGA mode causing the slowdown. Very interesting. I was sure it must have been the disc. Not sure if I'm more happy that my copy of the game is fine, or more sad that VGA mode causes slowdown.
I guess I'm gonna need to get cranking on getting a DC RGB scart cable.

Alright. Actually used every bomb for every life to break 400k and clear stage 4...and surpass my old scores. Going to have to learn NOT to use them though in order to improve now...
ChrisH2049 - 429,900 - 1-5 - Tavia - DC

Re: Hi-Scores; Gunbird 2
I used to be able to 1CC this on the DC...when I changed the difficulty to 'Monkey' or 'Child'
Anyway, just had a few goes with all the characters. Bulldozed through the first 3 levels with Valpiro without dying, then got my ass kicked on Stage 4. Then I went into Maintenance mode to see if the settings were right and promptly wiped my scores. Doh!
Managed to repeat my previous run though, so this was my best score today...

Been trying out all the characters, can make it to the Stage 4 boss with most of them - and made it to Stage 5 a couple of times with Tavia, though this was my highest scoring run so far...
