Re: Your 2012 Christmas Wish List
My ideal christmas would be me and my dog watching cartoons alone eating a bowl of homade mac and chesse. But instead i get forced at knife point to hang out with ppl i wouldn't pee on if they were on fire. The only way out of this tourture is to have a horrific accident after thanksgiving i may just throw myself down the stairs
Re: Your 2012 Christmas Wish List
First off, I love my family, as well as my in-laws. Secondly, Christmas is a time to be spent with family.cookie monster wrote:My ideal christmas would be....
That said, my wife and I have been married for a few years and I had to put my foot down and say "It is time we start our own Christmas tradition(s)". That didn't sit well with the in-laws, but ya know what? They have a car and are invited to visit. My wife and I will spend Christmas together, in our own home, and I'm looking forward to it.
My Mother in-law isn't taking this well, even dropping hints such as "Oh that's nice, but you'll be visiting us for Christmas dinner right?". No we will not, and I don't think I'm being a bit selfish. Our doors are wide open for family, I have guest rooms a plenty, and it is their choice to visit or not.
Luckily I have my parents support. They basically said, "We'll see you the week after. Hey, second Christmas, why not? It's just a date, family can get together whenever and it is just as special".
Plus, a nice romantic Christmas with my wife sitting by the fire listening to Christmas records and having a hot standing rib roast with champagne will always beat her family's tradition of cold ham and sweet and low with a dash of Iced Tea.

I totally agree with this. It also comes with the side benefit of not having to decide whose parents to visit for Christmas.Luke wrote: That said, my wife and I have been married for a few years and I had to put my foot down and say "It is time we start our own Christmas tradition(s)". Luckily, me and my girlfriend have a system. We visit her family over Christmas (they do it properly with all the trimmings and my family barely celebrate it) and my family over New Years (because the town the live in throw a big all night fancy dress New Year party in the town centre).
Re: Your 2012 Christmas Wish List
Rereading my post, I came off a little jerky, which wasn't my intention. The Charlie Brown Special version would have read a little more "As much as I love our families, I want to spend this special occasion with my wife in our own home. Our doors are open to family and friends, but us being together on Christmas is something to be cherished."alienjesus wrote:I totally agree with this. And AJ, the entire "whose family to visit" stuff always sucks. It makes the date of the visit more important than the visit itself. You can celebrate my birthday a month later as long as you visit.

^ I concur. My wife and I have been married now nearly six years and we are just now starting our own Christmas traditions here at the homestead. We'll be making our rounds later, just not on Christmas day. Things are going to be even more jolly now with the little guy on the scene. I cherish Christmas.

A joke that isn't told enough: "My family has no traditions. They do the same thing year after year after year after year..."s1mplehumar wrote:My wife and I have been married now nearly six years and we are just now starting our own Christmas traditions here at the homestead.

Re: Your 2012 Christmas Wish List
My birthday like some others is on December 24th and I hope that I can for the first time in a few years spend it with my kids and my family. While I see my kids daily their mom usually has them on Christmas Eve and my mom and sister live 3.5 hours away. The last few years have been days spent by myself and I would like to finally again spend that day with them. Birthdays spent with yourself especially around the holidays is not a lot of fun though the one two years ago was a marathon Saturn gaming session with a brief interlude for church in the middle.
My other Christmas Wish is truly for everyone to have a safe and happy holiday season and cherish the time spent with friends and family.
