We need Saya No Uta ASAP (I know it's borderline hentai but it's so creepy and disturbing. The atmosphere and music are just insane), although Hirgurashi and EVE: Burst Error are great.J T wrote:Several Japanese visual novels that have been translated to English just showed up recently on Desura:

The company that brought those games to Desura has their own website for English translated doujin imports. They sell both physical and digital copies, and even have an 18+ section for eroge games:

I just saw this story on indiegames.com about EXTRAPOWER: Star Resistance, which includes info about a free download:

Here's a list of free Doujin games. Most of them are Otome games (targeted to girls):

Lately I've been playing the quite awesome (and a mouthful of a title) Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel. Like it's predecessor, simply titled Rosenkreuzstilette, it's a love letter to the 8-bit Mega Man games. Very cool games, but you do need to be able to stomach all the characters being chibi-esque girls. If you can get past that and like the original Mega Man games, chances are you'll enjoy these as well.
You can find demo versions of the games at the developers' site and RKS FS can be bought from several retailers specializing in japanese doujin software. I got mine from Eurotaku. Finding copies of the first game might be a bit harder at this point, they did release a digital download version of it but I'm not sure how easy it is to acquire outside Japan.

Oh shoot, I didn't realize that this finally came out. I'll have to look into it, I'm a fan of the first one.Ghegs wrote:Lately I've been playing the quite awesome (and a mouthful of a title) Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel. Yeah, it surprised me too. I liked the first game and was looking forward to the sequel, but then it got delayed and delayed, I thought it would be quietly cancelled...then some weeks ago I learned by pure accident that it was released after all! That was a fun and pleasant surprise for a change.
I've got the boss order down (I went old-school and wrote everything down in a notebook), just need to get off my ass and finish the thing.

I hope it's ok to bump this thread...
I've been playing a bunch of doujin games recently - I mentioned a few of them on other threads, but then I discovered this thread, so it's probably best to compile them all here...
Leiria 2
Espgaluda-inspired shmup. Difficulty-wise, it's probably similar to the first Espgaluda game.

Clip here...
Not sure if this is free or not, but if you google around a bit, you should find something to download.

Bunny Must Die: Chelsea and the 7 Devils
Metroidvania-style platformer that's been given a Western-release by Rockin' Android.

Official website:
http://bunnymustdie.com/
It's also available on Gamersgate and is currently on Steam Greenlight (though I'm not sure what its chances are).
It's worth checking out, controls aren't entirely intuitive to start off with, but you get the hang of it pretty quickly.

Kaikan
Super fast shmup with a good scoring system and several ships to choose from.

(Scroll down to the green download icon.)
The clip doesn't really show off how the scoring works. You're supposed to stop firing to vacuum up the medal items, and gradually raise your medal rank from G to A. You can recharge bombs to keep generating even bigger medals and keep your score shooting up.
