Yeah, I know how you feel. It's somewhat a flood of nostalgia that I have to check. As much as I enjoyed them in their prime, the current state of the online community wouldn't be fun. For example, getting on the Schthack servers for Gamecube was fun for a brief moment, but it wasn't the same. There's what like, 73 players on that server at a given time, mostly on the PC.

If you got it working, I'd be more than down to see if there was enough of the community to get you some sort of host funding and have a Racketboy Dreamcast server--provided you were cool with the idea. :-P

^exactly why it would be great if the PC-DC server thing was a lot easier to setup. If a bunch of us here could get it working then it would be great to have regular Racketboy Dreamcast meetups. Even if we only had less than 10 games to choose from, it could still be a lot of fun... just probably not $150 fun haha.

Oh god, I'd love to play some old school PSO on DC I fucking loved that game. Still do, but it's just not the same on other platforms :(

if you guys can find dialup ISP's in your area (cheap or free) then we can all get online the old fashion way... I just tried and logged on successfully via the DC Web Browser. :)

I've really been meaning to try out some of the online offerings that remain for the Dreamcast ever since getting a BBA earlier this year, but the way my network is set up, I would have to move my dreamcast to another floor to get it in range of an ethernet cable to connect it to. Just been too lazy to do anything like that.

It's pretty much just Quake III and private PSO servers left at this point though, right? Would be awesome if I could play the matching service JP titles online. Hopefully there'll be a massive DC server project sometime in the future.

I don't really see myself spending the money on the various parts needed -- and investing more time into try to get it to work on -- on another complicated (for me) method. Maybe someday I'll find a BBA at a yard sale hahahaha.
Actually the BBA only supports 2 games, PSO and Quake 3 (which are the only ones really worth playing) But if you did the method I posted, you could play all the remaining games (starlancer, 4x4 evo, maximum pool) And I hear that is is rock solid for PSO since it is not a bandwidth intensive game.

I had a BBA I picked up from a member here, and played PSO pretty intensive for a couple weeks. It was a blast, and I almost always got a full party of 4 to play, even though they were PC players. I had a ton of fun, but ended up not playing it as much as I would have liked after the initial awesomeness wore off (time needed to really make the game worth it was the biggest issue) so off to Ebay the BBA went. I wouldnt be opposed to getting back online if we had some dedicated RB members inolved, though normal Dial up is a no go, as I dont have a land line at my house.

If there was a collection of Racketboy folks who could get together semi-regularly to play Dreamcast online, that would totally make all the headaches of getting the thing online worth it to me! I'll keep an eye on this thread.

4x4 Evolution
Maximum Pool
PSO
Quake III
Starlancer

...and Sega Swirl via email. :)

Anyway, like I said if you can find cheap or free dialup in your area, go for it. It's def the easiest way to get your DC online haha.

Heh, the only games from that list that I own are Quake III and PSO....

I keep meaning to check out Starlancer. I think I've heard good things about it?

You can play Sega Swirl via email? I can't believe how little I really dealt with the online capabilities of the DC back when the servers were still up. At least, aside from PSO, Alien Front Online, and the Skies of Arcadia and Samba de Amigo dlc. Although servers did go down pretty quickly. By the time I got 110 emblems in Sonic Adventure, those bastards took my Sonic Chao away from me.

I'll get my act together, and set up my DC for online too, if a Racketboy DC online community gets going.

pierrot, I only have Quake III and PSO (v.2) right now as well. But if you (and others here) get connected I'll make picking up the other games on the list a priority as well. That would be awesome.

Oh wait, I have Maximum Pool too!

Oh, I actually have Sega Swirl as well. But yeah you can play it "online" by email... I guess it emails your move to your oppononent almost like how people used to play chess by mail, y'know? In order to get it to work you need a POP3 email address. I have no idea what that means in all honesty, but I'm sure we can all figure it out easily enough if we have to get a dedicated "Dreamcast" email address...

BTW, most of the Dreamcast DLC is available still either by going online with your Dreamcast and downloading it from various websites that host the files (it downloads to your VMU) or there are ways to download them to CDR's and use some kind of folder-explorer on the DC to move it to the VMU.
