Unfortunately though, this is not something you'll be plugging into your Super Nintendo anytime soon, as the game is built from the ground up for the PC.

Save your unhappy smilies for after Nintendo's lawyers swoop in.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Ones that are done well enough are definitely newsworthy.

Fair enough I guess.

Nintendo doesn't really have a history of shutting down fan projects.

True but they are being really cagey about Donkey Kong Country right now.

I worry that this game will succumb to the all to common problem that fangames often have, which is taking the majority of its graphical resources from the regular game(s). Without something new to look at I might as well go play a level editor. Sure there are one or two new zones that we've seen so far, but the city area looks terrible and while crystal canyon is okay it still looks a bit off from the DKC aesthetic.

I don't mean to hate but I'm generally pretty skeptical about fangames.

The fact that they don't have to pour time and effort into graphical resources and other assets is exactly why people gravitate towards making fangames to begin with.

I mean, it's not the only reason but it's a big one for a lot of people.
