Wait, didn't that one carry around a utility purse? I'll take Kate Kane over Kathy Kane any day.

Besides, I'm pretty sure the new Batwoman is just a revitalization of the original one.

Although, Bette Kane is Kate Kane's cousin, and the niece of Kathy Kane. And if that wasn't enough of a connection, if you follow Batman Inc., it says that Kathy Kane married Nathan Kane, who was the brother of Martha Wayne, Bruce's mother. So basically, Kate Kane and Bruce Wayne are cousins.

Try to wrap your head around how much effort DC put into connecting all of those dots

So on the topic of Bat women, anyone know if we'll ever see Cassandra Cain in the New 52 universe?

Image

Or Stephanie Brown? Cassandra seems like a fascinating character from what I've read about her on the internet over the years. I've only read one actual story arc that featured her though(Gates of Gotham). I know little about Stephanie Brown other than that she has a dedicated fanbase who are pissed about her being dropped as Batgirl

Given what I know of Cassandra, it sounds like she was the most badass Batgirl and had some badass costumes too

I really want to see some interactions between her and Damien

So let's talk about Marvel Now. Is anyone else keeping up on this? How are you liking it?

So far, I'm not liking the changes I'm seeing. Especially after how disappointing Avengers vs. X-Men turned out to be, which caused this "Marvel Now" era.

Rumor is Peter Parker will no longer be Spider-Man, although they haven't revealed who is gonna be wearing the costume after the end of Amazing Spider-Man #700 yet. Rumor has it that it's gonna be Spider-Man 2099 aka Miguel O'Hara. Not digging that. Love that Spider-Man 2099 may make a return, but not at the expense of Peter Parker.

The Avengers have reformed under the name "Uncanny Avengers", with the explicit intent to have a team consisting of mutants and humans...ummm wasn't that The Avengers already? Quicksiler, Scarlet Witch, The Beast, Wolverine...what? They didn't count? I guess it's not that big of deal, really. But my point here is, why? What was the point? Oh well, for all I know it will be awesome. It's really to early to tell. But the first issue was kind of meh, for me.

FF. Um, I can't even begin to explain how stupid this looks. Here, just take a look for yourself:

Image

Iron Man #1 has already come out. I wasn't impressed. They're rehashing the Extremis storyline we already saw during Tony Stark's last big relaunch pre-Civil War. And the new, ugly brown and yellow armor really has no new purpose or reason for upgrading other than cosmetics. The explaination for it in the comic is literally Tony Stark saying "It was on my wishlist." Hmm.

Thor #1 seems to be the one shining diamond in the rough, so far. That comic was a good read and grabbed my attention from the get go. I'm onboard for the next few issues at least. It really made Thor feel like the Viking God that he is. And it had great artwork to boot.

All-New X-Men #1 wasn't bad, either. In it, Beast is disenchanted with the state of the X-Men after the dust has settled from the recent Avengers vs. X-Men battles. He's also experimenting the next stage of his mutation as he "evolves" further, which may be killing him. He remember a more hopeful and idealic time of the original X-Men team, and decides to travel back in time to meet them (including his former, more human-like self). So far, so good. But again, like Uncanny Avengers, it's really to early to tell but the first issue grabbed more than Uncanny Avengers did. It has potential.

Captain America wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that great either. Could have just been another issue in his former series. I don't see the need for a series restart here.

What are your thoughts on it all?

Avengers vs. X-Men was like reading awful fan fiction penciled by an amateur. I thought it was an embarrassment to the Marvel brand. But perhaps Marvel isn't focused on its comics.

They can, and will rebound, but at the present I have no interest in any of Marvel's comics.

It stinks because I want to support my local shop, and I want to read some good Marvel-U stuff, but I've even given up on DEADPOOL. Loved CIVIL WAR, adored PLANET HULK, OLD MAN LOGAN was a blast, but since then...not too much continuity anywhere. It's reboot after reboot, and all I want is a solid ongoing story line that doesn't involve shape shifting/magic/multiverses/alternate timelines.

The worst of it all is that when I do go to my local shop, nothing has been pulled for my folder. Hearing "Sorry Luke, but I don't think there is anything you'd like" is a bummer.

Yeah, things seem too complicated over at Marvel, one of the reasons I stick with DC. The New 52 reboot gave me a nice jumping on point, and DC sticks with their reboots for a good long while so I don't have to worry about that. DC seems to have their shit together right now.

EDIT: I'd actually love an HD remake of those games. I'd be all over that.
How I feel being a more recent comic inductee.

I truly want to get into Marvel, but the crossovers and events and deaths and bladdy bladdy bladdy are just constant. Personally, I just want to read Iron Man, Hulk, and Dead Pool. No other Marvel books really jump out at me. However, I know better. Iron Man and Hulk are both in Avengers, so they're in the middle of this giant cluster f__k. Hulk, I know, is somehow seperated from his human form, so that's up in the air too. Deadpool also seems like it would be a bit hard to jump into.

One thing I love about Batman and his universe- you can tell any story with him. As long as you follow Year One for his introduction story, you're pretty much in the clear. He can be a rich crimefighter, an insane super hero wannabe, or simply the Dark Knight...

Meh. Dark Horse, Image, and DC get the majority of my comic money.

Can't agree with you more about avx. I only read the synopsis as they came out and I just kept sighing.

Ive been on a kick of collecting all the old hardcovers that i can. While going through all my books i came across my trade of days of future past. Damn, i forgot how awesome that story was. Now i really cant wait to see what they do with the movie.

The X-books now border on unreadable. I can't for the life of me fathom why Cyclops gets a pass on damn near everything, even now that hes a villain.

My hope is that Colossus might actually get some some good exposure now that hes joining Cable's group. He got turned into a stark raving madman during the crossover and hes basicly lost everything. His sister is evil seemingly permanently, and the only woman he ever really loved dumped him for no discernible reason to shack up with someone she has barely showed any interest in ever before.

The Punisher is getting shoehorned onto a team, the thunderbolts. I coud handle Punisher and Fury teaming up occasionally, but hes never been one to play nice with other supes, even if they are amoral psychos like the rest of the thunderbolts. He might get to shag Elektra out of the deal, but thats the best that could happen.

I'm not happy with the New 52 reboot over at DC, either. I've been a Green Lantern, JSA, JLA, and Superman fan for years on end. And I just feel shafted that all my characters and continuity now doesn't even matter. And this new universe isn't even nearly as good, from what we've seen of it so far.

I'm gonna be focusing a lot more on back-issues in the near future.

I know what you mean. I loved the revival of Power Girl they had going, and now shes really is just a dumb blonde with huge assets. What's been her biggest character development, sleeping with a guy to get his tech? Good job DC. Nice to see you sticking to that "classing" up the ladies idea.

I guess I like it more because I am a big Batman fan. I think the work Snyder has been doing on Batman and Tomasi on Batman and Robin has been fantastic and I know the pre 52 Batman continuity fairly well and it doesn't seem like they've messed with it much. He seems like one character they chose to leave well enough alone with the reboot. The biggest complaint I see from Bat fans is losing Steph Brown as Batgirl and Barbara as Oracle. I guess having not read Gail Simone's Birds of Prey run with Oracle or any stories with Stephanie Brown as Batgirl it doesn't really affect me much. I was thrilled to see Babs out of the wheel chair and back in the suit as she is the classic Batgirl to me. I would like to see Cassandra Cain brought back into the continuity though as Black Bat. I feel like I really missed out not having read any of her stories pre 52
