Saturn boot swap?
Saturn boot swap?
I was wondering. For instance I have US saturn model 1 console + action replay 4mb + 1 saturn japanese retail game, but no american games. Okay say for instance I want to do the boot swap with a japanese game to a US game, is that possible to work? There are not that many retro shops out here and some stores act pricey. Modchips are a bit costly, so I prefer not to at this point.

Re: Saturn boot swap?
I wouldn't really recommend the swap trick especially for imports. The mod to change region is pretty simple to do if you know someone who can solder. If you're only playing retail imports I would just add a region switch or do the switchless mod rather than do the swap trick.
Re: Saturn boot swap?
The swap tricks don work inter-region, you would need to patch the game and burn it so they matched regions.
EDIT: NVM, I did not read your thread properly.

If you have an AR 4 in 1, you're all set. That lets you play retail games from other regions. Modchips on the Saturn are just to allow burns.

Can you still do the swap-disc method with a cart in? I noticed that I could never get a burned game to boot with a cart in the slot, but can get it to boot everytime without one.Hobie-wan wrote:If you have an AR 4 in 1, you're all set. I also have a us system, and a jp retail game to boot my burned games, and I did what someone already mentined and re-soldered the system to change its region. Then, if I want to play something like Albert Odyssey, I just patch the disc image with that saturn region patcher, and it works great.

yes you can do the swap trick with a 4 in 1 cart in. tried it with a burn that needed the extra ram and it worked fine. start the swap after you exit the cart's menu.

Ah okay, I wasn't going into the cart menu. I was also not using the 4-in-1, but another cart that allows for region free play. For some reason the cart was changing the patterns the disc was speeding up/slowing down, so I was unable to get it working.
Its good to hear that the AR works with disc swapping, I may need to pick one up now.

If you have a 4MB+1 Action Replay, then you can already run both US and JP games. Your Action Replay allows your Saturn to run games from all regions. Perhaps you didn't realize that.benderx wrote:I was wondering. For instance I have US saturn model 1 console + action replay 4mb + 1 saturn japanese retail game, but no american games.
