What was the last movie you've seen?

The voice: failure
The mask: failure
His plan (I hate the League of Shadows but ima do exactly what they planned and lead them to - oh wait im just a henchman): failure

The rest of the movie was ok at best. But Bane specifically, failure.
Bane was a far better villain than Liam Neeson.
lol no.

Ra's was a far better villain in general. Neeson played Ra's pretty well to boot. Bane was a joke and followed Ra's daughter. He was a simple henchman, he couldn't even come up with his own plan. He wasn't a leader. The whole film sets him up to be 'the guy' that all these henchies are afraid to cross, when in reality, he's just a shift supervisor.

And I mean seriously. Seriously, that voice should have been caught, made fun of and tossed out as soon as Hardy tried it out in front of Nolan. If I were Nolan, I'd have said "Hey Tom, look, I know you used that voice in Wuthering Heights, and somehow it kinda sorta worked? But not here. Bane is supposed to be menacing. Not a mumbler. And first off, Bane's Mexican. So if nothing else, try to throw a bit of a spanish accent into your characterization. We don't need the Bloobidy Bloobidy thing you're trying. We're trying to make a serious movie here."
You're forgetting that the entire Nolan Batman franchise is marked by ridiculous vocal choices.

Am I the only one that thought we did get some kind of Bane back story? I don't know what it is supposed to be from the comics or anything, but I felt that I knew enough about him from the flashbacks to understand his motivations and his relationship to the true antagonist. I'm not sure what else you wanted. It was probably equally as silly as the Neeson "real Ra's" misdirection nonsense in Begins. At leas Bane felt like a comic book villain.

If you're talking about the 60s era campy version of Batman, then yes, Bane felt like a comic book villain.

And while we got a little bit of backstory on him, it was completely different than his true origin. OK, so don't make him Mexican. Make him... whatever. But in the comics, Bane is a genius that figures out Batman's identity without the need for a hot chick taking his prints. He's a brilliant chemist that creates the Venom. Granted, I understand the Venom idea was a bit silly for a 'grounded in reality' Batman movie, so I get changing it. But Bane isn't some 4th tier Batman villain. He's not a simple Gofer for Talia.

In fact the film's inclusion of Talia also tells us that Ra's is still influential in the Nolan Batverse. Meaning he's a much better villain than Bane, and he's dead.

Bane was a joke. He couldn't top Joker, and I'm not referencing the 'amazing job by Heath Ledger.' I'm saying that this guy who was supposed to be a military/terrorist genius couldn't keep up with a guy who was insane and just killed people for shits and giggles, and had no reason to do it.

Shit man, Batman 89's Joker was more menacing than Bane. Maybe even Cesar Romero's Joker was too.

see, this is completely irrelevant to me and most of the moviegoing public.

It's really a shock that he couldn't top the best-loved most iconic Batman villain? I thought Bane was fine in the film, I liked the connection to Ra's quite a bit as explained, and I had no problems with the film other than to say it wasn't as strong as the previous one. I'd place Begins and Rises on equal footing, with the former doing Batman and his allies better and the latter doing villains better.

yeah, that's a pretty great interview - and eerie given Ledger's voice choice. But, if you know anything about Tom Waits you'd know that it is impossible to get enough Tom Waits in any context

Alfred, did you think Bane was fine as a villain in the Nolan-verse?

Bane was like my favorite thing about the movie. Yes, even the voice. I genuinely, truly loved that voice. This is coming from someone who absolutely agrees that Bale's Batvoice is completely ridiculous.

If I ever get a chance to meet Tom Hardy, I'm gonna ask him to record my answering machine message in the Bane voice.

I have very few issues with the Bane voice, but that sounds like a bad idea.
"Haa-Lowwwwww. Pleashe leave a MeSHHHage after the birrrrrrrrrrrp".

Still mad at myself for being a few feet away from Micheal Bay and not saying a peep. Then again yelling "Pot brownies in a kids movie? Really?" wouldn't have done much good.
