The guys involved with MAN OF STEEL have to be feeling tons of pressure.

I don't mind JGL being cast as a Bat, he's a great actor and I think he could pull it off, but I don't want John Blake being Batman in the League movie.

Batman, that is to say BRUCE WAYNE, is a founding member of the League, and where the League gets a lot of it's funding/toys, not John "Robin" Blake. Plus, wasn't Nolan's Batverse supposed to be grounded in reality, meaning no metahumans?

I have to say I don't like this.

IRON MAN didn't start out with magic and aliens, but Marvel's The Avengers turned out great.

But yeah, this move may piss off the Batman purists. But if the Batman cameo in TMOSTEEL goes over well people may start to come around.

No kidding. Doesn't help that Zack Snyder's track record is pretty hit and miss.

Wouldn't be the first time a comic book adaptation has shuffled around with canon. I agree on the other point too. I don't think trying to tie these fantastical stories and characters into an established universe that's very much not tailored to those kinds of characters and stories is a good idea.

But like I said, I'm willing to roll with it if DC/WB can make it work and I'm actually looking forward to seeing how they handle it. I just don't have a lot of faith that they can do it well. The whole DC movieverse project feels very sloppily patched together and rushed right now.

Iron Man was also created with the idea of a larger Marvel cinematic universe in mind from the beginning. This is taking an already established universe and trying to tailor it to something else. It's definitely doable, but my expectations aren't too high.

It is, and it isn't.

Once WB saw the money Marvel's The Avengers coined in on (just at the box office) they did scramble. But, the tentative date for TJL is 2015. I still think that is a bit rushed to build the foundation of the other characters, but thank God they're not just throwing shit together for a 2014 release.

And if Man of Steel tanks, which it could, they'll definitely go back to the drawing board.

I find all of this really exciting. Sometimes it's a lot of fun to not have a clue what a studio is doing. This is one of those times.

I honestly can't see a situation where Man of Steel outright tanks unless it's really bad. Could be wrong though.

It certainly is fascinating. I really do hope it all works out for them, but I'm gonna remain skeptical.

Pfft Cameron is a "visionary" now? And Cirque du Soleil? Really? A 3D film about used napkins would have made more sense. Faith in humanity: -100000

Consider me shocked that burning doom has been silent on the Batman stuff.

There is an interesting dichotomy between WB and Nolan going on here. Nolan is known for his "fuck you(s)" to studios, and maybe that's why RISES seems more like a bad spinoff than anything else. "You plan on using my deeply serious and realistic Universe? Fuck you, I'll end Batman". And the studios come back with "No fuck you. Batman will be fist bumping Martian Manhunter and flying around in invisible jets".

I don't want to see or hear Bale as batman again. Bale being Batman would be just as silly, if not sillier. As a friend pointed out, as soon as Wayne became Batman in the Nolan-verse, he mostly complained about having to be Batman and couldn't wait to hang up the cowl.

This again huh?

To keep it light and playful:

"Broken back eh? Several vertebrae torn to shreds huh? Rope and a positive attitude will solve that. Yup, yes sir".

Every RISES discussion opens up a new can of worms, doesn't it?
