The addition of HDMI output could make it tempting if done right - they could probably graft the video output from the Wii U on it, and perhaps net people the same benefits that the Wii U offers Wii games.

I do agree that this will confuse consumers. It also seems like really, really bad timing to release this anywhere near the launch of the newest system. If you want to sell your latest hardware; by all means, sell it! Don't give people more options.

AwwUPDATE 2:Nintendo has made the Wii Mini official and confirmed it is exclusive to Canada.
Wait it can't connect to the internet at all?The Wii Mini does not feature the Wii's Wi-fi capabilities. Futureshop says because of this it does not connect to the internet and, as a result, does not support online features in games or the eShop.
It looked really cool in the first picture but this one makes it look like one of those to-go trays you get at resturants...

No wifi means hacking it will be difficult. Any word on USB ports? If it has the sd card slot, USB ports, and can still be hacked for full use, Id be tempted to get one.
The HDMI out is more of a convenience thing nowadays than anything. It doesnt have to output HD, its simply a single plug into the tv.

Re: Nintendo Wii-Mini leaked
Another function dropped and an important one. I hated when Gamecube support was dropped since it meant any new Wii games produced would no longer offer that controller option. Wii online support will eventually go away, this just confirms that it will be dropped sooner.http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012- ... y-retailer
From the Wii Mini website: "The Wii mini console does not connect to the Internet and does not support online features in games. Compatible with Wii software and accessories. Internet connectivity features are not available. The Wii mini console is not compatible with Nintendo GameCube Game Discs or accessories."

Re: Nintendo Wii-Mini leaked
I think the Wii Mini looks awesome. It's Famicom-red and has a SNES shape to it. Since I already own a Wii and plan to eventually get a U, there's no point on me getting one. But I really do like the way they look.
Exclusive to Canada? We can speculate their tactics on releasing such a console, but why just in Canada? The only thing I can think of is, maybe they want to see how it sells there before trying it anywhere else?
Also, most current low end and mid range TVs have very limited inputs. You're lucky to get 1 HDMI and 1 component. I've seen a few that just have HDMI.

I think Wii online support has years of life in front of it. The Wii moved 300,000 units in November. This non-internet guy is exclusive to Canada.
Re: Nintendo Wii-Mini leaked
Anyone ever notice every Wii after the 1st generation and Wii U consoles are all horizontal? Maybe the disc reader is more reliable when not vertical?

I don't think the orientation makes much of a difference unless you're like, rotating the console while a disc is spinning inside.CRTGAMER wrote:Anyone ever notice every Wii after the 1st generation and Wii U consoles are all horizontal? Maybe the disc reader is more reliable when not vertical?
It's probably more of a case of the Wii and Wii U not sitting vertically very well without a stand, and Nintendo wanting to save a few pennies by not including one.
