Virtual Boy & Prescription Glasses? Problematic?

Post by c0wb0y »

I'm considering purchasing a Virtual Boy. I've worn prescription glasses for 25+ years and do not plan to get Lasik. For the optically challenged, lens-wearing Virtual Boy owners out there, do you find yourselves wearing your glasses when playing the VB? I'm curious if this was a problem or not for you.
While we're at it, have any of you played Galactic Pinball? I love pinball, and it seems too intriguing to pass up.
Systems: Pong, Odyssey2, Atari 2600, NES, CDX, SNES, N64, Saturn, DC, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, GCN, Wii, Xbox360, OUYA
Handhelds: GB, GBC, GBA, DS lite, DSi, Virtual Boy (<< is that even a portable?)
EM Pinballs: Bally Dixieland, Gottlieb Flying Carpet
SS Pinball: GTB Circus, GTB Count-Down, GTB Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Stern Lectronamo, Stern Galaxy, Bally Black Pyramid

Worked fine for me. As long as I keep my glasses straight. If you don't have the anti-reflective it could get weird.

Ive done it with glasses, contacts, and naked eye. I get a headache after about 5 minutes of it with glasses, but can go longer with the other two. Just make sure you have the eyeshield.

It's funny when I was playing it as everyone says they hurt your eyes ect. After I fixed mine I sat and played it over and over till the auto pause came on. Eyes felt fine...

Might have something to do with that one week where my college dorm hall was completely covered wall to wall in red paper and red plastic over the lights.

Thanks for the responses. :D
I'll have to read up on the system a bit more - what's the auto-pause for?

So you don't burn up your eyes and sue Nintendo.

Pretty clever really. I remember the early Wii games use to recommend you take breaks, but not force them.

I picked up a Virtual Boy last weekend and thought I'd update the thread. The system and visor are comfortable as they could be and have no impact on my glasses.

FWIW the pinball is the only game I've played on a VB and I thought it was fun for the little I went at it. I collect video pinball games too, so consider that a thumbs up of sorts.

This is good to know if I ever, however unlikely, get a virtual boy, as I have been wearing glasses since the 3rd grade, and have no plans to switch to contacts or get lasik. I tried contacts but I didn't really like them, and I look weird sans glasses because I am just so used to how I look with them.
