The Mayans were actually very advanced. Also one could argue that if they had made superstitious based notes on the end of the world they would be about on the level as ones written by a bunch of people out in the desert.

But anyway, since it is all superstition, it doesn't matter anyway.

No difference, actually. The Bible says that no one knows when the world will end, which I think is quite reasonable, and the Mayans predict...nothing, they just saw no reason to continue the calendar past 2012.

The Mayan calendar doesn't end in 2012. It's just the beginning of a new era essentially. Beginning of the 13th Baktun.

It's Y2K: Ancient Edition.

Isn't the Galactic Rift supposed to be like... really visible, or aligned with the planets or something like that?

There will be no doomsday thing, obviously, but maybe some kind of celestial alignment? Am I remembering that correctly?
Yeah, even our calendar is fudged up. Because of the Romans, three extra months were added to "hail Caesar". October should obviously be the 8th month, but they ruined that too.
Close, but not really.

People who say they've just started recently haven't read the Bible. The end times began the moment Jesus left the earth.

I don't give the 2012 stuff any credit. The Mayans just decided to stop their calendar there, that's all. Why should anyone think that a primitive Indian tribe would know the date the world ends?
Another thing that every doom sayer seems to forget, which is especially sad for the religous doom sayers...

The Bible says straight up that man will not be able to predict the apocalypse. It will be upon us by the time we figure out.

Does that mean I get another Great Person? Because then I want an engineer to build the Tower of Pisa in my backyard.

Well, I don't believe in this piece of bullsh*t, since I believe most of the doomsday scenarios predicted on 12/21/2012 show little to no science and evidence.

Let's hope this will be the second Y2K "doomsday." When 12/21/2012 passes peacefully, this "doomsday/apocalypse" will become the biggest epic fail of the 2000's.

I prefer a General, so I can load him up with Modern Armor and take over the world.
