Gaming While Standing
Re: Gaming While Standing
Standing up while playing a game just makes me feel...rushed, or something. I find it easier to focus when I'm sitting. It probably has to do with things such as being at eye level with the TV, being able to cross my legs and lean forward or back as needed during intense moments, and stuff like that.
Re: Gaming While Standing
Right after reading this thread, I played a race on SASRT on Expert mode while standing up, and easily took 1st place.
It obviously didn't make any difference in my skill at the game, but its interesting that it happened.
I stood up for a few more races, but then I started losing and sat down again.

Yes, indeed. I would also think about the short term costs. Let's see, $8/pack, if you smoke 1 pack/day, you would spend ~$2500 on smokes. You could buy a lot of systems/games with that money.

No big deal if I'm standing still. But try playing Mario Kart while you're walking up the stairs! I was pretty dumb back in the GBA days.

I have a habit of using the DS or an iPad while on the treadmill. I find it much easier to spend more time on the mill with it compared to just playing music, as I would be busy and time would just fly by. The only problem is that the sweat gets into the touchscreen.
Re: Gaming While Standing
I can stand for arcades and stuff... but that's about it.
For me to comfortably game and be in the experience, I'm usually pretty stern sitting in my rolling desk chair and not too close or too far from the TV. I've noticed my roommate games a lot just laying back in his bed, I can't really do that at all or even sinking into a sofa laying back on it isn't very doable for me. Like if I'm at a friends and we're playing a fighter or something passing the controller around, once I'm up I suddenly jump forward to the edge of the seat to play. I do it every time, lol. And I definitely don't like sitting too far back. I'm hoping to get a big TV for my new place eventually, but I can imagine I'm still going to be doing most of my gaming on my 32' in my room.
I guess I have to be intensely sitting straight up and forward to play games!
I wonder what's worse in the PC situation though. I have a massive desk, so my entire arms past my elbows can be resting on it when I'm using the mouse or typing (as I am right now). I wonder if that's better for your arms than a small desk where they can hang off or you have to hold them up yourself, if that even makes sense. No idea...

I only stand when I game when I'm in the middle of an unpausable cutscene and nature is calling.

I think its a 'heat of the moment' kind of thing.
One can play comfortably either standing or sitting.
When you are playing with friends and theres no space on the couch you'll play standing. This happens on fighting games when friends take turns and pass the controler around.
Or if your gaming by yourself and you have to stand up to do something else. You go do that other thing and you come back to your game. You might sit down or you may just keep playing while standing up.
I've gone to make some snacks while gaming, and while i'm waiting for the food to cool down, I play standing up.
Theres no wrong way to play. Standing up or sitting down we get our gaming done.
Lets also not go on tangent over saying what type of chair/seat/floor you use when you play on your butt.

Well, I have been thinking of making my own couch with memory foam.
It would not only be super comfy, but also much healthier...
This would be a nice simple design for a homemade memory foam couch:

Re: Gaming While Standing
I sometimes find myself unconsciously standing during really intense gaming situations... like when I hit level 6 of Ninja Gaiden I stand up - it's on now!!!
Sometimes I play games like Magician Lord standing. I set the Neo Geo stick on a little bookshelf.
I pace around a lot while playing handhelds (unlike most folks here, I think more than 50% of the games I play are on a handheld system).
I played Super R-Type for about 2 hours the other day. I didn't sit once.
But usually I sit while gaming. I have to stand/walk all day at work while chasing little kids around. And then I go running after work. By the time I get home I tend to collapse.
