According to the stats given here, they do tend to hold their value better than other genres. I'm not proclaiming infalibility on this article or anything, but it is informative nonetheless.

Personally I find rpgs to hold their value just as much as other genres of games. Some of my favourite games are really short and I can easily clear them in 1-2 hours of playing. And some of my favourite games are 30+ hours long. But I enjoy them the same.
