I started a "top 10 saturn games" list on the Sega forum and thought I'd continue the theme over here. I recently went a little crazy and made up for lost time with my N64 collection and have come up with a top ten list from what I've seen and played so far. Here it is:
1.Ogre Battle 64
2.Harvest Moon 64
3.Mario Tennis
4.Super Smash Bros.
5.Sin and Punishment
6.Paper Mario
7.Doubutsu no Mori
8.Bangai-O
9.Mario Kart 64
10.Conker's Bad Fur Day
Anyone else?
Oh, and I should acknowledge the absence of the Zelda games, but in fairness I haven't played through them and they my find a place on the list eventually. In general though, I guess I just "don't get" why they're so revered.

Re: ...and Top 10 N64 games.
Funny this topic coming up, I just added a couple of games to a "Games that Defined the N64" article I'm writing for the site, I suppose I should really look here to get some more ideas. So far I have:
Mario 64
Zelda OOT
Goldeneye
Super Smash Bros
Perfect Dark (Probably going to be merged with Goldeneye)
Conkers BFD
Pokemon Stadium/Snap (don't know if this really defined the N64, it sort of more defines Nintendo of that era, with blatant cash ins on the Pokemon franchise)
That's all I have just now, and some of them are only titles on the word document so I still don't know how I'm going to qualify their existance there. Also games like Banjo, DK64 and Mario Kart 64? I just don't know!!!
BTW, my list would actually go something like this:
Zelda OOT
Mario 64
Bomberman 64
Zelda MM
Goldeneye
ISS 64
Glover
Mario Kart 64
Pokemon Stadium
Perfect Dark
That is pretty much my order, but a couple might move up and down depending on how I'm feeling...

Re: ...and Top 10 N64 games.
I would have the Pokemon games on the Defined list.
I haven't played a ton of N64, but here's the ones I've enjoyed
Sin & Punishment
Star Fox 64
Mario Kart 64
Blast Corps
Paper Mario
Pokemon Puzzle League
Conker was pretty cool, but I didn't play too far into it. But I could tell it was a high-quality game.
Body Harvest was interesting, but it's not the type of game I typically go for.
Bangai-O is a great game, but I have it on the Dreamcast
I also need to play some Mischief Makers as I'm a Treasure fan.

Ah yes, Mischief Makers. My friend had that one and never played it, only because it was 2D and he scoffed at anything less than 3D. He eventually traded it to another friend for a shiney Pokemon card. Ah, the good old days of playground trading.racketboy wrote:I also need to play some Mischief Makers as I'm a Treasure fan.
I tried Sin & Punishment, I really did, but becasue it was on an emulator and isn't really my kind of game I never got into it. All I hear is praise about it and I just know nothing about it. Did it define the N64? In my opinion it really didn't as it made no inpact on me during the life of the console, only surfacing on Virtual Console 10 years later. However, if you guys think it did I'll add it to the list.

No it didn't define it, but it's still a great game -- and we did include it on the Best of Today list.andymol21 wrote:Ah yes, Mischief Makers. I bought it on Virtual Console and it plays pretty well on there.
You really need to do the tutorial level before diving into the game though -- I'll tell you that much.

Wrestlers.. Crikey there were a lot of good N64 games. I know when we did the Top Games Today that was one of the things that people commented on, the lack of wrestlers in the list. All I ever played was WCW Vs NWO Revenge and I don't have very good memories of that cause I was crap at it! Any suggestions? with information to back it up of course!scottykick wrote:1- WWF No Mercy

Re: ...and Top 10 N64 games.
Haven't played many, and haven't played any N64 in quite a while now... but ones I particularly enjoyed:
Body Harvest - free from a friend; awesome.
Bomberman 64 - not the best version out there, but I had real good fun with it at the time.
Mario 64 - surpasses the SNES version, in my humble opinion.
Perfect Dark - the graphics were absolutely top-notch when I first played this game; just a few minutes in I had decided it surpassed Goldeneye in every possible way.
Star Wars Podracer - how great is this for a racing game? I'm not particularly fond of the racing genre as a whole, but this one is unique. I do find it lacks lastability after completion, though.

Man, where's the love for Shadows of the Empire? I put so much time into that game, as it was one of the three games I got when I bought the console (with Mario 64 and Goldeneye as the other two). Running around blasting Stormtroopers and tripping walkers. It was pretty epic, and one of the first third person shooters to hit the consoles.

Re: ...and Top 10 N64 games.
I have to say that I totally disagree with this comment. While it was a great game, a lot of its acclaim comes from it ushering in the era of 3D platformers.Pingfa wrote:Mario 64 - surpasses the SNES version, in my humble opinion.
To me, Super Mario World is a perfect platformer and has aged so much better than Super Mario 64. I find it to be infinitely more playable than the Mario 64.
Sorry to break the topic, but this game is one of the only ones I will defend to the bitter end. Call me a fanboy if you will.
