I would like to know how do people cheat in online games. I understand that maybe you can create a mod of a game with different rules, but I do not understand how can some one cheat on the original game released by the publisher?
Is there not a safety feature if the game's code is cracked or modified you will be banned from playing online, or the code simple will not work with other non-tempered with games?
I also think that trying to change the code will take time and effort, so his willing to put so much effort to cheat in a game where others will simply just decide not to play with him because he is cheating?
Finally, how can scripting be applied to game? You know where a bot/computer will play for you? Is it an option implemented by the developer? Even so, how does a computer play a game where a game needs intelligence to be completed?
do YOU as a gamer see a benefit of using scripts to let a computer play games for you?

Remember gamesharks and stuff? It's done the same way, except with modded consoles instead of a cheat device.
People do get banned for it, though it takes time for them to get caught and appropriately punished.
Cheating online is one of the lamest things a gamer can do I think.

A script isn't an artifical intelligence, it's an automated command.
For example, I have a script in TF2 to disable autoreload when I play by pressing "P" which is useful when playing Spy. It's useful because it's faster than going into the menu and chaning it everytime I change weapon or class.
The typical cheats won't see you changing the code either. For example most wallhacks simply change the textures and aimbots only read it, not change it.

Plus, I heard there were scripts to upgrade your character. You know you just turn on the script and he does certain things(the bot does) and when you come back 7 hours later , the character has leveled up.

Best examples of this are MMO Bots. They're basically just automated scripts that play the character for you, so you can leave it alone and it will kill monsters. Some of basic ones are just automated keypressers, but the really complex ones can do everything from target specific monsters, avoid moderators, pick up and sell loot, and respond with pre-programmed replies. Majority of MMOs have either software based measures that prevent bots (like GameGuard) or have anti-botting measures built in to the code (like an Uber strong monster that is passive, but will kill anybody who attacks it - like bots). The only MMOs that still have problems with botting are the poorly managed ones or private servers.

This. I don't really understand why people do it. I guess for a bit it could be entertaining to mess with people but in the long term I don't get it. If you won the match by cheating you didn't really win. Don't people want to play the actual game and test them selves against the challenges presented whether from the game itself or other players? I guess some don't. I have never used cheats myself, they just do not appeal to me, and I tend to move on once a game is full of cheaters. It was a sad day for me when I couldn't play World at War anymore.
The only thing I have ever done that compares I guess is back when I was playing Everquest I put my toon in the water up against a wall and left it swimming on auto-run while I went out to level up my swimming ability. Um...yeah.
