i never cared about vmu but i replaced the discharged ones half year ago just to feel the DC more "complete".
they're already discharged since then. good brand i think energizer or duracell.
is half a year ok?

VMU sucks batteries dry in a hurry. Unless you're actually trying to do anything with the VMU while not connected to a system, it is mostly pointless to worry about the batteries.

Mine last a few weeks. If you keep the out of the controller, they will last longer. It doesn't matter if they're dead though.
Re: how long vmu batteries should last?
The DC batteries are notorious for draining quickly, but they will save and load just fine with no batteries and when plugged into a controller. They're only good off the system for downloading and playing various mini games. I had a good time with the Power Stone and Tech Romancer offerings till the batteries died.dtrack wrote:i never cared about vmu but i replaced the discharged ones half year ago just to feel the DC more "complete".

Remember each VMU requires 2 of the CR2032 type batteries. They are easy to find as they are also used on computer motherboards to store BIOS settings.

Re: how long vmu batteries should last?
i could be wrong/lying.
I think I remember mine dieing quickly when you just use the dreamcast for playing music.
I would let my sister borrow a DC back in the day and she would use it for playing music cds.
The VMU would be on with the image that you chose when you formated it.
She would use it alot since her cd player broke back in the day.
When I took it back the batteries were dead.
I dont know if this was one of many reasons on why the batteries suck.

Re: how long vmu batteries should last?
The VMU drains batteries for no reason. I've left a VMU in a controller; never removed it, and the batteries were still drained in a couple weeks. WTF? As been said, it still saves/loads, and copies/moves files through the DC's menu, with no batteries at all. So what's the point? Just remove the batteries and keep them safe for something else...or until you really need them.

Re: how long vmu batteries should last?
Unfortunately the VMU batteries die rather quickly. I say less than 3 weeks just leaving it plugged in. They will die super quick if you use them for mini games. Fortunately you can buy these batteries in bulk rather cheaply. As stated you will quickly get to the point where you realize unless you are doing something with the VMU that needs the batteries there isnt much point in replacing them all the time. I seem remember some mods or fixes where people where connecting them to battery packs.
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast
Re: how long vmu batteries should last?
then probably wasn't even half a year, maybe one or 2 months. i just noticed 5-6 months after the replacement.
i have to set the time almost everytime i start up the DC and i thought there is something to do with these batteries but as it turned out there is a rechargable one inside the console and unlike the saturn, it is SOLDERED. oh sega...

If you used your system often and just moved it every now and then it was fine back then. They weren't planning on you using your system infrequently 10+ years after the system was released. That said, if you locate a replacement, it is easy enough to swap out and you don't need a proprietary security bit to open the system.dtrack wrote:but as it turned out there is a rechargable one inside the console and unlike the saturn, it is SOLDERED. oh sega...
