My point wasn't that I was offended by you nor that I think you are an ass. I just read what I quoted and laughed becaues I was like "Damn dude! That's bleak as hell, and I thought I was pessimistic." Seriously, read it again. That's jaded, defined. You might want to examine that.

EDIT: Also, there's something unusual about a forlorn "drifter" condemning "bums".
I know how it sounds... and a drifter is not necessarily a bum. One could consider a truck driver a drifter, and look at that, he's working while he's doing it.

Spoken like someone with no responsibilities who has never had to worry about how they were going to pay their next bill or feed their kids or pay for medication after getting laid off.

I hope you never have any difficult times in your life. With an attitude like yours, growing up would be very painful.
I'm not going to argue your points, but I'm not going to change my opinions.

You will. Life will see to that.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Why do I imagine that Forlorn believes that the only reason all poor people aren't middle class is because they're just 'too lazy'?

I don't believe that. There's so much else that causes problems. Society itself, our dependance on money, our glorification of idiocracy, the way that the world now forces to have more education, but laughs at the fact that so many can't afford it.

The problem is that people pretend that life is fair, and that all are equal, when that is simply not true.

Shit, it's almost like some people have things really bad through no fault of their own and might need some help from those more well off.

There's a difference between disliking laziness and assuming that anyone asking for help is just lazy.

Yes. But how many beggars and bums really have a reason for it? If you sit on a corner all day and beg, then I see no reason to help you. You wasted twelve hours asking for money, when you could be out doing any other number of things. They have halfway houses, you could pick up odd jobs, you could visit soup kitchens, etc. In some cases, hunting is a viable option. (Illegal, but then, I could get sent to jail where I would be fed, clothed, and in many cases have access to cable and other niceties not found on the street.) And so on and so on...

In the case of someone with a physical or mental disability, this would be different. But I have never personally seen someone with either of those problems begging, unless they happened to have some form of blindness.
