out of topic: $50 for Ouya? Thats too cheap, I thought it will at least have ps2 graphics power? thats a damn good price for something that will output graphics like God of War.
The PS2 came out thirteen years ago (so the tech is circa 98/99). My phone can easily play games at much higher details and in higher resolution than the PS2 could ever hope to.

The Tegra 2 chipset does likely only cost them about $50. Considering how long that chipset has been around, and the price of the system is $99.
Are you saying that my iPad can run games on par with RE4 and God of War? Because I do not see that happening, mostly its Angry Birds in HD . Maybe ps2 cant output HD but I'll take God of War graphics over any 2d game in HD.

I have been waiting a long time to see a game on par console games of the ps2 generation. Even if we get a game that is on par with the ps2 generation, its very short.

Most games I have seen are on par with the Dreamcast and I am not even talking about Soul Calibur. I really am looking for a full game on a portable device (other than vita and ds)

it is pretty amazing to see that big ps2 diminished in size until it fits into slim cell phones....
how things have changed

@isiolia

I don't know that you'll get a full console style release on an iPad or phone, simply because that's not what they're made for, but, yes, there are several games on iPad and iPhone that blow the PS2 out of the water.

Infinity Blade 2 and Real Racing HD 2 come to mind.

Yup.

The 360 is going on 8 years old at this point technology wise. The iPad pushes a much higher resolution than either the XBox or PS2 did (for the most part).

Real Racing 2 allows for 1080p out on the TV. It looks something like this:

I'd say that's a good bit better than anything the original Xbox could put out.

If it's just in terms of graphics, there's actually a lot of 3D games on the iPad that blow the PS2 out of the water. OTOH, aside from Ryan's examples, the following also have graphics that are at least on par - if not better due to the higher resolution - with the PS2:

Rage (you know, that game from ID Software that's supposed to be all eye candy)
Batman: Arkham City Lockdown
NBA 2k13
Need for Speed: Shift
Street Fighter IV
Thor: Son of Asgard
Sonic the Hedgehog Episode 2

I've seen many others. Capcom and Sega in particular have offerings based on their popular franchises (I don't remember the exact titles, but I've seen Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Super Monkey Ball).

There's also a lot of free (not crippled/lite edition. just microtransaction supported.) games that have graphics that are better than the PS2 era, like Dungeon Hunter 3, GT Racing: Motor Academy HD, and Zombiewood. I've also seen a free WWII FPS from EA that's not crippled (Single player only, though).

I went back to check God of War images(best graphics on ps2?) , I guess you are right, those do not seem to hold against something like Infinity Blade 2.

It is funny how when one game comes out every body is in awe at how awesome the graphics, and when you look back at it , its disappointing . This does not make me happy though, it only shows my age I guess.

I really do not consider GC or the PS2 consoles "retro" yet, but I do consider the Xbox obscure, not retro.

Oh well, I guess there will come a time when we see Uncharted as weak in graphics...

God of War wasn't really the best representation of the PS2's graphics capability. God of War 2 is better, as well as the later WWE Smackdown vs. Raw games and Final Fantasy XII (both games already hit the uncanny valley).

I read from one of the PCSX2 devs that the PS2 was a really capable machine as far as pumping out textures was concerned (to the point that they were having trouble emulating the full fillrate of the PS2 without hacks, even on high end GPUs), but it was hampered by the low native resolution. Some of the later games had textures that were much more detailed than what the native resolution was able to show.

They tend to look pretty damn good on PCSX2 using higher internal resolutions (as opposed to the PS1, which had textures that looked blurry even if the internal resolution is bumped). Check out Valkyrie Profile 2 on 1080p:

Xbox is hardly what I'd call 'obscure', as I knew tons and tons of people who owned one. Maybe it's different where you live though.

I find the wording you used a bit odd though. Why can't something be both obscure and retro?

Wow that looks really really nice. At that resolution I'd have no trouble believing it was an early 360 or ps3 game.

1) No it wasn't obscure in its time(though seemed fewer than ps2/GC back then) but I mean its obscure NOW because as far as I know and see, many people still have thier ps2's and GCs while its really an awkward scene to see an original Xbox. Also many people still remember and talk about GC and ps2 games, but other than Halo, no one seems to mention any Xbox game.

2) It can be obscure AND retro, but I do not consider Xbox to be retro yet. Just obscure due to its rarity around here, and I am guessing in the USA too. Rarity means it comes up a lot less than a ps2 or GC, it does not mean that you wont find it even if you go looking for it.
