Some questions about Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Post by MrEco »

I recently beat RE1 and I'm currently playing through RE2 (For the first time each, woot!). So pretty soon I'll be moving on to RE3. I have a couple questions, mostly for the games namesake the Nemesis.

Firstly, all of the gameplay and screenshots I've ever seen show the player as Jill Valentine. Does RE3 not allow you to choose from one of two characters like in the previous games?

Second, I know Nemesis appears randomly. But about how often does he appear? And are their certain situations he's guaranteed not to appear during?

Lastly, when fighting Nemesis do you just damage him until he runs away, or do you have to damage him until he essentially get's knocked out and then YOU have to run away?

I never actually finished the game, but I did get a good 2/3 of the way through it.

You play as Jill until a certain point about midway through the game where you switch to another character.

Nemesis appears randomly, but in all but one or two encounters you aren't required to fight him. You can just run away (which is the preferred option). He doesn't ever appear in save rooms.

But I thought I hear he can follow you between rooms, so wouldn't running away only delay his killing you? Or did I hear misinformation?

He follows you sometimes, but seeing him isn't a guaranteed death. You can pretty much always get away.

It's been a while since I've played it, but I seem to also recall a few encounters where you had to hide from him or do something to stun him or make him leave.

Havent played it in a looong time.

I think you can fight him, and he does fall. But its a waste of bullets. And He does come back again.

part of the game is the dread that you know he's around. If you cheat and read the FAQ, then you are missing out on a scary parts of the game. Once you do beat the game you should know where hes at when you play it the second time around.

If You expect 3 to be like 2 you'll be dissapointed. There is so much content on RE2, that 3 just seems much shorter compared to it.

Yes! Just like in Resident Evil 2 where at some point you controller a support characters (Sherry or Ada depending on who you main). Jill's support character in RE3 is mr. Oliviera.

Nemesis doesn't exactly appear at random. He will appear at certain points during your progression. It may feel random to some, but that's perhaps because in certain points in the game, advancing via puzzle solving become non linear allowing you tackle obstacles at your dismay to advance forward.

LOL! Nemesis never runs away, only you do  You can fight him until you knock him out which isn't always easy so it usually better to run. Doing so will not guarantee his demise but you will be rewarded with items he drops after being knockdown if you so decide to fight him. Nemesis confrontations come into 2 forms, he either appears abruptly chasing you down or the game will provide you with a "live selection" where you are given the chance to choose from 1 of 2 options.
I hope this helps.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with you on this. 2 and 3 aren't so drastic. Sure, RE2 may feel longer due to the zapping system, but RE3 provides just as much or maybe even more replay value than its predecessor thanks to it's non linear game play as a result of the games randomizer and "Live selection" system which provide multiple endings to uncover. In terms of content, RE3 has more to offer than RE2 with additional features like the Environmental hazards that can be used throughout the game, an ammunition creation system, new maneuvers like the 180 degree turn as well as a dodging mechanic, alternate costumes, a wonderfully addictive Mercenaries mini game and the "Live Selection" system all contribute to an experience with more broder possibilities than what RE2 offers.
Quite honestly though, the best thing about RE3 is the Nemesis himself. His introduction really adds another dimension to the RE formula of old.

RE3 is a very solid game, and one of the better entries in the series - the addition of the Nemesis adds a unique element. I would recommend playing on Normal mode if you want the "true" RE3 feel, as the stupid amount of weapons/ammo the game starts the player off on easy mode is kinda dumb.

Lol, I'd never dream of playing it on easy. Having tons of ammo sorta ruins the point of a Resident Evil game.

And thank you all, especially CD Ages, for the help. I think I understand it a fair bit now, and I'll be avoiding looking at guides as much as possible (Only had to use it once in RE1 for that stupid V-Jolt puzzle).
