During the holidays, I was working part-time at a Circuit City. We had people waiting for over 16 hours to get a 360. The store I was at had a total of fourteen units.
Well, the store manager printed fourteen vouchers, signed them and the first fourteen people in line received these vouchers. All of the 360's were claimed by 9PM. I don't know how many dozens of people we turned away, and they were pissed. We had guys showing up at 3PM wanting to know where all the Xbox's were. Of course we had those clowns show up and say that they were in line and that they were promised and Xbox. Bottom line, no voucher, no Xbox...
The funny part is that the store manager could have opened the store at midnight to let these people buy their Xbox's, but he made them wait the extra hours for the store to open at its regular time.
Its cool for something new to try.... but for the cost of the unit plus the price of any new game id say don't pawn your grandmas jewelry just yet. Don't get me wrong... king kong was very pretty and Condemned was a cool chill-er spooky game but they just did not live up to the hype. PlusI think I just named most of there game line up and dont get me started on why i didnot like Condemned.
There where a few more than that but they did not look too interesting. The system right now only looks slightly better than the xbox.
The only game im waiting for is Gears of War. But I heard there having problems with disk space and some new blue laser stuff and a bunch of other things that may put back the release date.
Maybe im jaded or something but the last big gaming leap in to the next generation shocker i had was when i first played Parasite eve for the PSone. Since then Im just not to impressed with the whole 3D thing, not to say there are not some really bad ass PS2 or Xbox games out there. Its just that they are all starting to feel like the same old game, just a little better looking every time.
Until then, I wait for the day a game will fool my eyes into thinking what im seeing is right in front of me. Like im playing a movie real. Like whoa... I swear I felt brains splatter all over my face when I blew that zombies head off in DOOM 33. ... In the mean time...
im having too much fun collecting the Turbo Duo, sega Saturn, mame, nintendo glorious good stuffs I missed out on as a kid or was just to broke to buy. “THE WORLD IS MY OYSTER, HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA”

Yeah i get what you're saying. Graphics are not everything. But to superficial casual gamers, high polygon count is all they care about.
The real reason the video game market is in a slump creativity wise is due to casual gamers buying any old crap just because it's there. Publishers now know they can pump cash in after cash in and endless sequels into the market and make big $$$.
The specs on the Xbox 360 are amazing, its has a tri core 3.2 gigahertz processor, so its basically three processors in one, and it has 512 megs of ram and a pretty good video card. Now the important thing to remember is that none of the first genereation games can take advantage of that tricore processor, so imagine the second and third generations games. Remember how ugly first generation Playstation 2 games were? Thats because nobody knew how to program for the Playstation 2.
However the xbox 360 is way to expensive. I waited until a year and a half ago to buy a xbox 1, because I got it for $120 (I am a cheap bastard). But the xbox 360 can only be bought as part of a $650-800 dollar bundle right now that is full of crap I dont need or particularly want. Thats alot of money, you can buy a laptop for that much or a Nintendo DS, a Sony PSP, a Gamecube and a Playstation 2....crazy huh? The games are $60 bucks, and there dont seem to be any amazing games to justify why these games cost so much. For my money the best games are comming out for the Nintendo DS, thus why its selling so well. The controllers for the Xbox 360 are expensive, wire are expensive, the wireless modem is separate and its like 100 bucks! If the system fails its not because its a bad system, it will fail for the same reason the Sega Saturn failed, its was too expensive and didnt have a great deal of compelling games (In america at least for the Saturn's case).
Hopefully though Microsoft's deep pockets allow them to cut the price of the Xbox360 console next Christmas and the controllers and such will go down in price to be competetive with their competitors hot new products, though the games probably wont decrease in price.
I think I'm going to wait until the price drops down substantially and alot of the bugs are worked out. Maybe 2 titles interest me right now for the 360 which is not enough to warrant buying the system. I'd rather own the Revolution first when that comes out. Generally Nintendo products are troublefree when they are released and I have never had one break on me yet. (now watch when I hit the submit post button my Gamecube craps out on me).
i bought my 360 in the second wave that came in december or however it worked i didnt even want one at first but dead or alive 4 ...............come on
some asian games are region free and you can get em for 40 a pop off of play-asia
they even have a chart showin which one are region free and which ones arent
i was unimpressed at first but the remotes great and far cry predator is sweet and the remote desktop loopholes with mce are great too
i think its neat that theres gonna be linux on ps3 but im pretty sure they will botch it somehow limiting what packages they allow to be installed or somthing and they will have to because otherwise people would figure out how to rip games and get em to boot within days. either way i definetly wont buy one
and to raven mgs have you played shadow of teh collossus or star ocean or katamari damacy yeah teh ps2 has some gay games but theres alot of good ones out there too
