Commodore 64 Sound Problems
So, after a great long while of wondering why all my Commodore 64 were so quiet, I realized that there was something wrong with the machine. Whenever I connect the computer via RF, no sound comes out at all, and when I connect it via Composite, it constantly emits a high-pitched screeching sound. Is there anything that can be done about this?

You might have a bad SID chip on your hands, which isn't surprising considering they're one of the more fragile parts of the C64. Have you checked to see if your PSU is good as well? C64 PSUs have a tendency to go bad and they'll usually take out part of the computer with it.

As I recall, some of the chips are socketed, including the SID. You might try reseating it. Just be careful about static.
