I know you didn't mean any offense, but we do try to avoid using that abbreviation. JP or JPN or (J) are all fine, though. I went ahead and edited your top post.
Good luck with your Dreamcast repairs!

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Why don't you just buy that Hello Kitty Dreamcast and use that one?...
Playing imports on Dreamcast is super easy.
In this case PAL games would be the imports that need a boot disc.
Go to the isozone and download DC-X. Read the description on how to burn the disc. DC-X is a mean mofo to burn. Once you've got your disc, just play that one first, and switch with the game you want to play when it asks for it...
DC-X only plays original games, not backups.
If you wanna play backups, burn a copy of Utopia. Look for the latest version...

I have burnt copy of Utopia, but how about that rumored "DC taking damage" from cdr? Wouldn't that apply if I was always using a burned DCX? And I also need a step down converter to convert the JP current to PAL, or can I switch out the power "board"? Sorry I havn't got any pics yet since I forgot to take any!
Re: Jp dc to pal dc
The 'burnt cd damage' thing refers to how often the Dreamcast has to move its laser to spool data off a burnt disc that doesn't have its data organized very efficiently. If the Dreamcast has to constantly scan different sectors for data that it expects to find grouped together, you get wear and tear. Its the reason why so many used Dreamcasts tend to dump the user back to the GUI when they try to load a game.

You only need Utopia to boot. Takes less than 30 seconds.Bad_droidboy wrote:I have burnt copy of Utopia, but how about that rumored "DC taking damage" from cdr? I think your Dreamcast can handle it... lol
And yes, you can swap the powerboards and use your regular 220V cable afterwards.

For better or worse you don't have much choice. cdr is the only non technical method for imports.Bad_droidboy wrote:I have burnt copy of Utopia, but how about that rumored "DC taking damage" from cdr? Dreamcast needs either region free bios or modchip to fully automate region free without a disc swap.
