Do you hate the way HD movies look?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The samsungs do that auto processing. It did take a bit to get used to haha.

@ AppleQueso- i was thinking it was just the higher refresh rate on the newer flat panels as mine is an older panny and doesn't do that. so if you turn off that option are you just dumbing down the tvs refresh rate or does that have nothing to do with it?

I don't think I've really noticed it at your place. I was referring to another friend's TV where it is very noticeable.

Nothing to do with it. It still refreshes the images at the same rate, it just doesn't do anything fancy to them when you turn that feature off.

A nice advantage of 120hz TVs is that they let you enable 24fps playback, because 120 divides into 24 evenly.

I am 110% sure there can be some technical difficulties going on with some of you guys, but at the same time, there's also ... how long have you guys been watching HD stuff? If you started recently, I think you do need some adjustment time. Maybe it's a different argument, but I remember when I first got my HDTV a few years back and started playing my 360 games via component... man did I think it looked so "off" for a good week or two before it sunk in and I got used to it. Now it's hard to go back to CRT's and stuff with modern games, haha.

Yet at my new apartment with my friend, we both have our HDTV's in our rooms, but for the living room it's an old tube TV I've had laying around, so the cable is on there. And off and on already, there's been a few times where I'm watching something or just looking at it and kind of think "Huh, I kind of like how this looks" [thinking technically and all]. Kind of funny.

I could probably also dissect porn comparisons here... but perhaps for another time.

In general nowadays though, I'm all about HDTV's and BD when possible. Like just recently last weekend when my friend had a bunch of people over, he had Fifth Element going on his 44inch in HD and it looked breathtaking. But a week or so before it was on AMC TV or something, so I caught that on my old standard TV... and it didn't really wow me like it did seeing it at my friends place in HD. Old movies such as Alien or Blade Runner that were transferred really well are also utterly insane to see in crystal clear BD quality, it's a whole new experience watching some movies that way.

Too bad Lucas jacked up the Star Wars OT BD release.

Sounds more like some of that smooth motion bs. I hate that crap. Makes everything look like SNL.

Also, the tv size matters. Obviously 1080 lines are going to make a way smoother looking image in 32" of space versus 60". Which is part of why the HD look probably isn't as noticeable in theaters (which actually use 2k for the most part)' but also because there's none of that smooth motion garbage in theaters (until peter jackson gets his way with 48fps)

But, that's not fake smoothing, that's actually running at 48fps. Versus the TV crap, which inserts frames where it thinks they should be.
Older. Not wiser.

Next time I am at frys I am going to try and change the setting on a TV that has the "Soap Opera" look to see if all this time, it has been a stupid factory setting that has been keeping me away from hd.

I have never owned an HD TV for this reason. I still have a big CRT that I've used for years. I also don't play any consoles newer than a PS2, so I don't need HD for gaming either, other than my laptop.
