Help me connect a PS1 to my Sony PVM

Post by brownscanoe »

Alright so I just bought a Sony PVM 14M2MDU on Ebay

I want to hook up a Ps1 to it and bask in RGB glory

So inorder to do this I need a SCART cable and then one of these right?

http://www.retrogamingcables.com/sony-p ... r-bnc.html

Can anyone with some experience with the PVM monitor help me out?

Anyone know of a good 3rd quality SCART cable? I cant figure out what can be trusted online.

Any help would be awesome! I cant wait to figure this out.

If your TV supports 240p 15 kHz sync-on-green RGB, then a PS2 or PS3 component cable will work. Fat chance, but worth trying if you have the cable.

I dont think my monitor will accept component

Here is the user guide for it. http://www.tradeedition.com/download/pvm20m2mde.pdf

Wouldn't the RGB SCART to BNC connection give the best picture? Thats just what Ive heard im not really that well versed in video tech.

Well, it looks like it supports S-Vid, Component and RGB. Try S-Vid and see if you're satisfied, it's usually fantastic. If you want RGB, it seems to support that through the RGB/Component input. It's a Sony monitor and Sony loves sync-on-green so I think it will be fine. I don't know what the side actually looks like so you may need some RCA/BNC converters or something.

Well I guess I got to wait and see once it arrives in the mail. I bought the monitor for 5 bucks on ebay. I dont know how I ended up with such a nice deal.

Have you had any experience with SCART cables for the psx?

That's odd, Sony is usually the biggest supporter of Sync-On-Green. If that's the case, you will never get PS1 RGB to work without an active convertor. You could try a PS2 with component if you have one.
