Halo 4
Re: Halo 4
Another thing to remember in terms of gameplay time is Spartan Ops, only Chapter 1 has been released but for the next 9 weeks a chapter a week (each containing 5 missions) is being released free of charge. It is estimated to be around 12 hours in length from Chp1 - Chp10.

Is this post intended to troll? Because posting a link alone isn't adding much to the discussion.OldSchool_Boy wrote:http://www.quartertothree.com/fp/2012/1 ... should-be/
That being said, this article was pretty well written and does raise a lot of good points. Specifically the Prometheans and their weapons. They feel like the exact counterpart to a lot weapons that already exist in human or covenant variants. But that's already been experienced in games prior. The Carbine has always felt like a counterpart to the Battle Rifle. Beam Rifle = Sniper Rifle. Fuel Rod Cannon = Rocket Launcher. No surprises there. It's a stretch, but the energy sword and shotgun in essence provide a one-hit kill at a close distance. The needler is unique, fine. Even though they're not the same, the plasma weapons and assault rifles to a great job at lowering shields for which the player can swap to a headshot weapon, like a pistol or battle rifle. So, I'm not sure that this claim is entirely valid. I feel like the author might be upset with the formula of gameplay rather than the weapons available in the game. The Promethean rocket launcher-- incinerator cannon (sp?) is quite interesting in its gameplay mechanics and serves as a counterpoint to that argument. Though the weapons look awesome when they reload.
I liked the scoring of the cooperative mode and I do miss the idea of it, but what essentially am I missing due to its omission. In fact, I like the idea of completing the game without scoring being a focal point of it all, it lets me focus on the story at hand.
As for the story, there's plenty of hints that Cortana was starting to experience Rampancy in Halo 3. They hint at it all along in the books. There's plenty of extended universe stuff that meshes well when you get around to playing after you've read them. You'll get what you put in, that's for sure.
I like the Spartan Ops mode and feel like it and multiplayer will tide me over until Halo 5. Very clever branding of the "Infinity" mode.
Re: Halo 4
Chapter 2 of Spartan Ops is out. Get on it!
EDIT: Also in case people did not know, only Season 1 of Spartan Ops (Which is 5 Chapters, containing 5 episodes) is free, future Seasons will come at a price.
Also Spartan Ops, even in single player, is Gold only.

Re: Halo 4
There goes my interest in Halo 4 for a long time. Id was about to go buy the game, but if the continuing storyline is Gold only, thats a no go for me until a GOTY or DLC pack comes out for it. I have no problem with paying for the DLC, but I wont pay for Gold just to get it. Thats silly to me.emwearz wrote:Also Spartan Ops, even in single player, is Gold only.

The way it is programmed, you need to be online (via gold as there is matchmaking) to play the Spartan Ops (Because of the challenges, matchmaking, XP that is awarded to your character).
Anything that can award XP, makes sense to need online as they can make sure people don't cheat.
It sucks considering they took firefight and replaced it with this (Firefight was both playable offline).
EDIT: Also Spartan Ops Season 1 is on the second disc, once you install from that, you don't need to download any of the episodes, just wait for them to be 'released' and they are no longer greyed out in the Spartan Ops menu.
If you don't have gold but want to play through the Spartan Ops, I suggest you wait until all 5 chapters are out, then use your 14 day trial (that comes packaged with Halo 4) and then finish Spartan Ops within 2 weeks. Just an idea.
Re: Halo 4
Billy, if you want I have a 14 day trial that you can have. I know it's not much, but it's at least 14 days!

Thanks emwearz.
I appreciate it Blu but itll be a while before I get a chance to play it. The wife wants to play all the other titles first but the xboxes are a state away. So it wont be until next year at the earliest. I appreciate the offer.Blu wrote:Billy, if you want I have a 14 day trial that you can have. I know it's not much, but it's at least 14 days!

Re: Halo 4
It's only good with a group of friends/party (like all the Halo's for me), and none of my friends have been on it lately so... I haven't touched it in awhile. That sure didn't last. Considering the campaign was insanely short, feeling a bit robbed. lol
I loved the game, but in retrospect (already) I'm not sure how I stand on it now. I tried replaying it on Legendary and just had no drive at all after beating the first level, so I didn't bother continuing.
I think overall I liked Reach more, campaign wise. Music was certainly a lot better as well. But I like Halo 4's multiplayer a lot more.
