As for your question, Panzer Dragoon Orta is the game I got my oXbox for, since it has some bugs playing on a 360.
And it takes an older revision Xbox to use 480p mode (unless there's a hack?).
Microsoft broke that feature of some games.
why an older revision xbox? don't all ntsc consoles have the option to switch itself to 480p? maybe i'm just reading the post wrong. i can't remember if some games run higher than that or not. mines softmoded and i stream movies from my pc and it looks good. anybody know if xbmc upconverts? i thought it ran 720p, but sometimes not very stable.

Xbox like most consoles had internal hardware changes during its life.
On affected units, the 480p mode of a few games will display incorrectly.

ok thanks. the only revision i knew of besides the drives were pal consoles diabled 720p output through the fimware. softmodding them unlocks that thinking it's ntsc.

There are a lot of arcade and retro collections available for the original xbox that don't work that on other systems you have. There is also Jade Empire and Far Cry. Can't say I'd recommend much more though.

Then again, I don't have a very good knowledge of the system's library.

Ok so I have an oXbox what should I look for to figure out if my system is one of the ones that won't display 480p correctly?

I also have a component cable but my LED TV doesn't have a component input so I was thinking about using a component to VGA adaptor. Would that be good for the video or should I look into if there is a straight VGA cable for the oXbox?

Trying an affected game is easiest, highly specific titles like Panzer Dragoon Orta or Gunvalkyrie.

All but the final revision of the Xbox can output 480p for everything. Only the 1.6 revision made after June 1st 2004 won't play certain titles in 480p. It isn't a flawless way of checking, but without opening the system, you can get a vague idea of the revision Xbox you have by looking at the bottom of the system and reading the manufacuring date. If it's before June 2004, then you'll be able to play everything ever produced fro the Xbox across it's supported 480p/720p/1080i HD resolutions.

If you have a system newer than June 2004, you won't be able to play a handful of Xbox titles in HD. They include:

Metal Slug 3
Serious Sam 1
Panzer Dragoon Orta
GunValkrie

possibly a few others. Those are the ones I can confirm.

Also, the Xbox doesn't output VGA. There is no such cable. You have to use Component, S-Video or Composite.

There is a VGA hack for the original xbox.

It only outputs Sync on Green though.

can you link me to that? i can't find shit on googling. mine is that last revision that i softmodded and just for shits and giggles i wondered if i started the disc after the modded bios starts up if it unlocks those games to play in 480p. it can't be a hardware thing if it can output 720p.
