Well, does anyone know if it harms the disk or the laser just to play it? I can get it to work sometimes but the noise is starting to scare me.

Maybe just cleaning the lens will stop it from clicking. I've literally just cleaned mine 15 minutes ago. (It wouldn't boot Action Replay Max EVO, and i'm trying to softmod). I took it apart and cleaned the lens with a cotton-swab (I think they're called Q-tips in the USA). It works perfectly now.

Ico is a CD?! My Ico is on a DVD... I have the LTD ED. with the art cards.

The US version is a CD, it's lame. As are quite a few games on PS2 such as Gradius V. The Ps2 really goes berserk when playing some of these games. My slim is on the side stand and there is a piece of cloth underneth it. It still makes a little noise but it seems to run better that lying flat.

Don't worry too much about it. I have a original PS2 I got at the beginning of summer, wouldn't read anything. It needed the lens cleaned and the rails for the lens greased. Mine still makes horrifyingly loud noises when it reads the discs sometimes, but it works fine. Though it does refuse to play any playstation one game.

I used to have issues with my old fat PS2 until I cleaned the lens and that helped a lot. You can probably google a guide to help with that.

Yup. It's really not that hard to do either. The only thing that's a little bit of a pain, you need a #0 size philips screwdriver at one point. I cleaned the lens for my friend's PS2 a while back, it only took 10 minutes to do. You just have to have patience.

I've heard a lot about how the older PS2's get this read error. I have a fat PS2, although it's later model, and I've never had a single problem with it (knock on wood).

That's why Nintendo's the best. The only time you heard about hardware problems was the NES system and its blinking screen/light, and that's only from less educated people. Not that this wasn't very easily fixed, but those days are long gone now with the 72 pin connector.

I dropped my Gameboy out of a moving car once to see if it would still work. At 30mph it lost it's screen cover and have was battered to hell but it still worked!!! I couldn't believe it.

There's quite a few videos on youtube about testing the durability of the xbox the ps2 and the gamecube. Guess which one still worked after a drop of over 12 feet?

No prizes for guessing which one consistently breaks the first.

Nope. Wii definately has problems too. It ate my wii sports disc (seriously! I handle my discs very carefully too so it wasn't me) then stopped reading discs at all (black an error has occured screen) DS speakers have slowly been dying which nintendo refuses to fix, it's not under warranty but that just really disapoints me.

I know more people that own Wii then any other current generation system, I have never heard of a single problem with them. I don't think its fair to say "the Wii systems have problems" over that. The 360 has problems, the Wii is fine. Your one freak occurrence doesn't mean anything as a statistic, and would be impossible to prove that it was actually the hardwares fault.

PS: I know tone of voice doesn't carry over the internet. I'm not trying to start shit, I'm just saying.

haha, well actually all systems from this generation have problems. PS3 has problems but you don't hear about them because everyone is too busy posting about the 360 hardware failures. The Nintendo tech support forums show http://techforums.nintendo.com/nins/boa ... d=wii_tech Many also have a problem with the graphics card overheating and causing graphical glitches.
