Re: Ratchet & Clank HD Collection possibly coming
So I've actually started playing this recently. I've played Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal on the PS2 before, but this is actually my very first experience with the first game in the series. I'm pleasantly surprised to see that so many of the series' core elements were even present in the first installment. The only glaring omission is the rpg elements, but otherwise it's Ratchet and Clank through and through. They really knew what they wanted to do with this series right from the get go, unlike the Sly Cooper series and the Jak and Daxter series, both of which went through some rather major changes in their second installments.

They've been making some changes this gen though, which is why I consider the PS2 titles to be superior. The original trilogy was sillier, funnier, and had better music. The Future trilogy goes for a more generic orchestral soundtrack, and takes itself too seriously. I mean, the Future games are still good, but they lack a certain something that made the series what it is in the first place.Gamerforlife wrote:They really knew what they wanted to do with this series right from the get go, unlike the Sly Cooper series and the Jak and Daxter series, both of which went through some rather major changes in their second installments.

Yeah I'd have to agree. I played the first Future game and didn't like the serious business tone at all, and the generic music didn't help things either. The gameplay was fun which of course is the main draw, but it just felt "off" and I never even finished. Maybe it was a mood thing.BoringSupreez wrote:The original trilogy was sillier, funnier, and had better music. I just got this collection though and am looking forward to playing these again.

Future's biggest draw over the others is the environments. The ice planet is gorgeous.

The Future games without a doubt look better than the PS2 ones. It's not just that the hardware's more powerful; they put a lot of effort into those environments. But I prefer the cartooney look, which fit more with the cartooney story and characters.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Future's biggest draw over the others is the environments. The ice planet is gorgeous.

Crack in Time didn't win me over, it did feel way too serious. There were things about that game that almost made it feel like some other people had a hand in its development. It had far too much emphasis on Clank gameplay too. I had fun with Tools of Destruction though and Quest for Booty was chock full of silliness that I enjoyed. The one game I played on the PSP was really bad though
