Hey guys, I'm new. Been reading the guides on this site for over a year now, stumbled over Together Retro yesterday and was finally lured into your collective laps by this particular cake. I hope to stay on target with you guys from this point onwards :-)

On topic: I never had much fun with puzzle games, but played Tetris Attack one particular day and borrowed it in exchange for my copy of Harvest Moon. It became the first puzzler I genuinely liked. Nice pick.

As some of you know, I just picked up Pokemon Puzzle League about a month ago. Apparently I've improved since then, as I was able to make it though the 1 player stadium on easy, and last time I tried I couldn't even beat the first round. I'm getting a better eye for how to line up the 4 and 5 block vertical lines. Getting more than 3 horizontally seems to be luck for the most part, or is there some strategy I'm missing?

As for this specific version of the game, it seems like Nintendo was kind of lazy, and figured the Pokemon brand would sell it. The music is very repetitive, most of the backgrounds are static, and there is very little animation anywhere besides the blocks themselves. My favorite example of this is the slack-jawed Ash you get after just about every stadium level:

Incidentally, if anyone could contribute more to my question about the Pokemon Puzzle League options, that would be helpful. I tried changing a couple of them, but I didn't notice any difference in the gameplay.

I made some nice improvements in Tetris Attack. I can do 2x links somewhat fast and fluently. I play a lot of endless mode, but I been fooling around in the versus as well.

Btw, I never played any of these block games before other than for a few mins. Tetris Attack is pretty cool, I genuinely like it.

I got Pokemon Puzzle League for the n64 like 2 years ago, thinking it'd be a great way to get introduced into the Puzzle genre, but I was turned off by how lazily it was done. Like someone else said, the music isn't great, the aesthetics are boring too. I was hoping the character/pokemon you'd pick would some how influence the game but it is all cosmetic. Needless to say, it doesn't seem to do much that makes it different from the SNES versions from what I remembered. Granted I could pop it in now that I've taken the time to at least grasp some concepts of how to play the game.

Not for the most part, but you can get a nice 6x combo if you see something like this:

Finally have gotten around to playing this. I'm playing the SFC original (translated to English) in Vs mode and I've dabbled on Pokemon Puzzle League years ago when I had the Pokemon bug at the turn of the century. Both games being in the same series, they are visually exactly the same.

Owned the game since I was around ten. Really got into playing it last year. That's my second maxout on Marathon mode (first was 1:23:23, so a 14:59 improvement). I also have one maxout on Garbage mode (0:51:20).

No kidding. His Nibbler score is also legit.

Going back to this one tonight.
