What was the last movie you've seen?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I couldn't agree more. I think the reason why we are looked to as the resident film experts in this thread is because our tastes and appraisals are clearly superior in almost every way (though Michi sometimes has some funny captions).

The film is arguably Chan's best role to date and really signals the arrival of a new breakout star in Jaden Smith. I am glad you found it as enjoyable as me, because I feel the film gets a lot of undue criticism. There's no way this could be improved upon, and it is leaps and bounds better than the original. The directing is better, the acting is award-worthy, and the soundtrack is, in a word, "kickin'" (PUN INTENDED LOL!).

i hope that's a joke, if not, put down the crack pipe.

What do you have against me, dawg? You were coming hard about my thoughts on Alien and Cabin in the Woods too. When you've seen as many films as me and taught classes about film, maybe then we can talk.

I don't get why they didn't change/keep the name as "Kung Fu Kid" because there is literally no Karate in this damn version. HE'S IN CHINA. NOT JAPAN.

I'm not Asian, but I still found that kind of insulting.

Its like those people who ask an Asian person "Are you Chinese or Japanese?" and when they get an answer of "I'm actually from Korea." They say "So is Korea Chinese or Japanese?"

I think the movie was fun. I refused to see it at first because of Jaden "Only got a job in acting because I'm a Smiff" Smith, and I could not STAND that little shit in the recent (horrible) version of Day the Earth Stood Still. But I do admit that Chan did a great job as Mr. Han, and I liked the updating of the loss of his family. It worked pretty well. The original Karate Kid will always hold a place in my heart because of nostalgia (You're the best.... AROUND!) but even though I cant stand Smith or that they called him "Dre," I thought the new version wasn't too bad.

Oh one thing that DID bother me was that the kids were all like 10/12, where as in the Macchio version, they looked 16-18.

Neither of those supposed prerequisites...are in fact prerequisites to having an opinion on film. As an instructor myself - the idea that I could only accept feedback from other instructors would be anethema to any type of growth or improvement.

The new Karate Kid is outstanding, and I am in agreement with all of the posters on the board on this one.

I'm starting to come around to you, BD.

mjm, you might be an "instructor" but I am a professor, so I think I know what I am talking about in this case. I invite discussion about film, but I am happy to explain to people why their opinion is wrong.

I can pee further than any of you.

Dish's joke about the Karate Kid is obviously a joke, sorry to spoil the fun. Now everyone shut up and go see SKYFALL.
