Here in Washington where it was legalized, that is the question on everyone's mind now. We don't know how the federal government will react to our state decision. They might turn a blind eye to Washington and Colorado, but they could also have concerns. While I happily voted for the legalization, there are some potential fallout effects that the feds could have legitimate concern about. Will WA and CO now become major farming locations for organized crime through the drug distribution in the rest of the country? This also creates a rivalry with our state and drug traffickers... what is going to result of that? Will we legally put them out of business, or will they retaliate somehow?

I do not think it's going to be an easy transition for our state to legally get into the pot business, or for Colorado. I think it stands to greatly benefit our local economy though as it increases tourism and decreases expenses on criminalization/litigation. If we are successful, then we could really help lead the way for the rest of the country and even change the minds at the federal level. I hope for that (and I don't even smoke).

From my understanding, it would still be illegal federally. So, while legal in the state, the federal government could still try to push local/state authorities to take action against anyone breaking the federal law. It's probably unlikely the local/state authorities would do anything, as marijuana would be legal/decriminalized/whateverhappens, but it would be possible. I guess it would all start at the Governor level; whether or not they would be loyal to the state (as they ought to be) or to Washington. Then again, that's just my understanding as a non-American not living in America.

I hope and pray for that as well. Not because I smoke the mary-jane, but because the whole war against drugs thing is a crock of shit.

The power of optimism is not so strong in this one.
I gave Obama a shot in his first term. I was rooting for McCain, but when Obama won I was willing to see how things went before labeling him a bad president. This time I have no reason to wait, as his track record has already disappointed me.

It's most of the same people in Washington as usual. The only difference is their term number, and those numbers being one higher doesn't inspire any optimism in me.

According to the AP, the prop was not passed "largely due to the votes of nonwhite, working-class areas, according to an analysis of voting results".

Yup. Porn stars can still get their shimmy on.

Had it passed it would have led to some of the funniest FBI raids ever.

Apparently I'm not the only one who's noticed that Romney seems to have fallen off the face of the earth after Tuesday night.

I can't imagine what it's like to go from being almost-president to nothing in less than 24 hours.

In other news, Walter Mondale and Bob Dole are still alive.

Are you even aware of what he has done in office? I don't mean that offensively, but most people honestly don't realize how much he has accomplished. He is an incredibly productive president who has done more in his four years of office than I imagine I will ever achieve in my lifetime. He's still dealing with this shit economy he inherited though, so people will never be satisfied.

Here's 193 promises Obama made and kept, just for your education:
