wow that makes sense now i remember waking up in the middle of the night to play just because the ping would dip down to like 400-500 still horrible but somewhat playable. i always wondered why the ping varied during the day vs the late night

It's what they call a Fair Access Policy, and if you have their Basic service, you're allowed only 250MB of bandwidth per *day*, but if you don't use all of it up in a day, you can "bank" it for the next day, up to 2 days worth (500MB). If you do use it all up, you are in what they call the "Recovery Zone", and your speeds will be severely limited for the remainder of the day.

its something called Wiimax. They give you a device that looks like a router and it connects to the internet like your cellphone connects to 3g. Look at the picture.

As for speeds, thats what gets to me. You think its slow because others are using it, but once you run torrent files...those things give you 100% speed as advertised and maybe a little bit more. So this confuses me. I used to get 0.5 mbs on speed test when I had the 4mbs package.

Ok, I've heard of WiMax. The speeds you get are only as good as the wireless signal that you receive. If you're on a network that has a physical modem with an Ethernet/LAN connection, that will always be the fastest and should deliver as-advertised speeds. If you're on a wireless network running off a nearby router, you should also get the same speeds, but you sometimes have to factor in transmission time from modem-to-router-to wireless device. The same principle seems to also be the case with your connection. It appears the data has a distance to travel from wherever the nearest wireless signal transmitter is located to this special router to your computer. That hopefully will be a little more helpful. I don't know if this type of connection would be affected by multiple users, but you say you do get full speed sometimes.

We have another ISP that provides land lines through phone sockets. For some odd reason i have a really bad experience with constant lost connections and outages. Also its more expensive if you factor in what you get for what you pay. The only advantage is that they say it has a much shorter ping time.

Others say it has a very stable connection, but a friend of mine subscribed to them and he does not necessarily get full advertised speeds including slowdowns and disconnections too.

Ok, I am not sure if this is stupid or its the complex settings of computers now days.. but,

I went to a friend house and he has 8mbps and I have 10 as I mentioned. His youtube videos run smooth, they dont get stuck like mine, like its retarded. So i thought something is wrong here..

I remembered that ions ago I had set up my youtube to "I have a slow connection never play high quality video" because I do not want it to play HD for every single video, and I do not want it to turn into HD mode once I go fullscreen and reload the whole video again which got on my nerves.

I didn't realize that Youtube decided, even though at 360p , will load it slower because I chose not to have HD long time ago.

I fixed to the settings to "Play quality best fit my connection" and chose NOT to go HD when I go full screen.

THe videos load so much faster now! Even HD videos, I just have to wait few seconds and it plays all well and speedy! This is sooo good.

This is just another example of how computers settings are not user friendly. I can only imagine some one else paying for higher connection and getting slower streams. I know its my fault but the settings is dug in so deep, and i thought its just going NOT to play HD , not give me slower streaming connection.

...and there it is, the very first option of like, six options total. And it's a big checkbox and everything.

I'm not sure how on earth they could make the settings any more user friendly to be honest...

You really think that your average user would think... hmmm I have faster Connection but Youtube does not seem any faster. I am pretty sure its not problems with my ISP its Youtube.

They could at least tell you that not loading HD means you will get slower download speeds even on 360p. Some sign on the timeline/controls of the video that you are getting limited speeds should be good indicator. They make sure to put a little HD when you choose higher quality.

personally , this is the first time ever I get a slower speeds due to a website setting not due to my connection speed, in my 15 years of internet use.

My dad has a place in St. Louis, which has much better internet than my house.

The internet loads faster than I can consume, I don't know what I'm gonna do.
