I actually JUST finished my copy of Halo:CE Anniversary Edition last night. Being my first time ever playing the campaign it was an awesome experience. With all the news and reviews of the new Halo I might just skip playing 2 & 3 and jump right to 4 tonight

Don't. You'll miss all the story. And don't forget about Reach.

I played and beat Reach already(last year-ish). That was my first non-multiplaying Halo experience. Great game, not sure why so many people didn't care for it. I read the plot outline for 2, 3, and ODST awhile back. Didn't read a synopsis just in case I did end up playing them. Would I really miss that much? If so I have no problem holding off and playing the rest in order...... Although anymore time on the couch playing Halo then I already have this week and my gf might just leave me

Loving this so far. Played some Legendary campaign on cooperative last night. The game looks gorgeous, and feels very faithful to the series. I am definitely missing the scores from games past, but I imagine I'll get over it. Anyone interested in teaming up for some multiplayer goodness?

Even though I can pick apart a lot about Halo 2 and 3, yes, you will be missing out on a ton of stuff. Just play them all first if you can wait.

A chunk into 4 and it's breathtaking. These are the kind of modern games I completely love, massive environments, megastructures, the architecture here is bonerific. Halo has never been one to push the graphics envelope, but it certainly just did with 4. Great new music/vibe, great everything. No complaints here. And while I loved Reach, this definitely feels like the real deal... could be my favorite next to the original.

Lots of nods to the novels as well, which is awesome since they're pretty damn good (Fall of Reach and First Strike at least, the ones I've read). Bungie never did anything with the novels, but it seems like 343 could go a lot deeper with the lore here.

I too Xeogred, am loving the backstory from the novels. The ones that Nylund did are incredible. From what I've read online from reviewers and fans, there's a few other books that I should read to complement what's going on in Halo 4.

Gah, dammit. I thought the reviews for the game were just pay-offs or something, I snagged my copy from the company store yesterday, and figured that I'll put it off and keep playing Black Ops 1 until Black Ops 2 comes out... might have to reconsider given Xeogred and Blu's feedback.
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

I noticed he also did Ghosts of Onyx and Evolutions? Ah snap, I'm going to have to read those as well.

Any other Halo novels worth checking out? I know I've heard The Flood is pretty boring, like reading a slow version of the story from the first game or something lol.

Fall of Reach was just amazing though. Sure Reach the game was great, but Fall of Reach would've been even better if that were the blueprints they used for the story of the game. Goes into so much detail about the Covenant as well. I'm glad the Elites were ruthless and scary again in Reach, because that's only half as crazy as they sounded in the first novel.

The novels are probably what makes me a bit stuck up about Halo 2 and 3 though, lol. First Strike would've made a way better Halo 2 than what we got.

Damnit, I was planning on passing this one up, but I have yet to hear anything negative about it... So looks like I will be sucked in

All I can say is that you truly feel like a walking tank in this one, things seem more personal, and the whole thing doesn't feel cartoony like the series has previously. Finally feels pretty serious.

Still plays like Halo for the most part, but if someone wasn't a fan before I'd still say give this one a shot... even though, story wise it'd be pretty silly and pointless to jump into this one by skipping the others. So it's a tough call.
