Actually, the issue is that most first party Nintendo games come out on Sunday, so Amazon can't offer RDD. I'm not sure why it'd be showing up as arriving on Thursday; most of the first party games I've gotten on Wednesday. But I can definitely confirm that RDD is still offered: I got XCOM and Dishonored on release day.

I did get an email about that after my last order.

I had pre-ordered Borderlands 2 from Amazon, but it wasn't going to be shipped until after release day. I ended up canceling and going in with a 4 pack that was cheaper since I wasn't buying any of the goodie boxes.

Any thoughts on why Nintendo has Sunday as the release day?

I could pop on over to Nintendo HQ but I don't think they'd give me an answer. (they're a 5 minute walk from my office)
