Jp dc to pal dc
Hi! I have a pal dc with a bad lens, it tends to read some games and some not. Anyways i am looking for a replacement dc and The cheapest i found online was a jp hello Kitty one without a controller. So is it possible to take The jp gd rom drive and use it as a replacement in a pal dreamcast? That way i would get a neat Shell as well:)
Re: Jap dc to pal dc
I think the Hello Kitty edition of the console is a rev 2 model (GDrom drive without a daughterboad), If such is the case then I'm going to have to say Nope. Don't think you can. If your PAL system is on its last days, I say pot tweak the laser assembly before looking for a replacement.

I think it is one of the later ones I have. I have sen some lens called r48 for sale as low as 14 dollars but it doesn't seem to fit mine. I have also cheked out those youtube videos on how to put the timing in but my drive does not look like the ones in the videos. It is labeled Yamaha but I don't have the number but I can check them up if someone knows anything about it. The most strange thing is that a NEW IN PLASTIC copy of Virtua Fighter 3TB gives it lots of problems while some scratched ones goes fine, totally random in the errors but the better the disc looks the more trouble it has reading them seems to be a common note
I've read somewhere about faulte GD roms and since VF3TB was a launch title that might be the case. Sad about the kitty one though, it would have been cool

Pics? Would like to see the GD drive on both consoles if possible.

Re: Jap dc to pal dc
Look forward to it. But yeah, if the Kitty DC's innards are based on that of a rev2 unit (and I've heard that they are), its GD drive assembly isn't compatible with your PAL DC (unless of course your PAL console is also a rev2, but ima say it isn't simply due to the fact that you mentioned Yamaha in your last post and rev2 GD drives were redesigned and manufactured by Samsung).

... and new guy, use JPN whenever you're referring to JAPAN, for obvious reasons.
