I am using a single cup Bodum press actually. I've arrived at a good nuke time on the water before dumping it in the press, but I'm just using my crappy tap water and I'm not so snobby that I'm going to grind my own coffee. Considering I was ok with with instant before I got a press, I'll manage.

But seriously, DD is awesome when you brew it yourself. Their store brewed stuff sucks but that's because that company hires dummies. Next time I sell you something, I'll send you a bag of the Dunkin Dark.

the one thing I'll give you is that I do get their pumpkin spice in the Fall and brew it at home and it does taste much better than in shop.

I highly discourage drip brewing unless you have the proper equipment. The problem with the majority of drip brewers is they fail to deliver water at the required temps (195 - 205) during the extraction process. Technivorm brewers have long been considered the hallmark of drip brewers. I had the opportunity to demo one and can vouch for its quality. Bonavita makes a fantastic, and far cheaper alternative to Technivorm models. I love mine.

Personally, I'd rather invest in an ample roaster and grinder. Press, pour-over, and even vac or chemex brewers can be cheaper than buying one of the ^ above mentioned drip brewers, and many have the ability to produce a finer cup.

As for brands...this doesn't really apply to me. I buy green, roast twice a week, rest my batches, and lastly grind right before I brew. If I do buy a bag of coffee it comes from Ceremony Roasters in Annapolis.

If you do a press or any other kind of water pour method, the key is to just make sure that the water is almost ready to boil. Not boiling.

Also, be willing to spend decent money on your coffee. The difference between good jo and bad jo is immense.

Man, I used to get all my coffee from this place in Buffalo that would roast a huge variety of beans on premises. Freshly roasted beans makes a big difference. I would keep them in a vacuum-sealing canister and grind them just before making the coffee. It's been a while so I unfortunately don't even remember my favorite types of coffee. :/
Nowadays, I mostly just drink cans of Melitta pre-ground coffee. It's not as good, but IMO it beats the pants off of stuff like Folgers.

I only drink it unsweetened black and am have around two mugs a day.

I have two favorite methods for making coffee. One is the Aerobie Aeropress which produces a pretty good near-espresso for a fraction of the cost of a proper espresso machine. Unfortunately it uses a ton of beans, so I don't use it much.
My most common method to make coffee is to boil water and then pour it over the beans in a cone-filter thing. The resulting coffee is pretty dang good and you can't beat the simplicity.

French press coffee is good if I'm in the mood, but I hate the cleanup and honestly I prefer my other two methods.

During my time in Costa Rica - which is renowned for its coffee - I asked multiple people to identify the best coffee in the country. The answer was always the same...Montaña.

My wife and I also use a French press...specifically, this one:

After boiling the water, we pour it in the press to cool it and prevent "burning" the coffee grounds. We then add the grounds, stir them into the water, and let them steep for at least 5 minutes before pressing.

For me, the stronger the better. I drink it with powdered creamer and sweetener. And I often drink from pots that are several hours old, so evaporation has certainly had an effect.
