Exactly. Low turnout is good - less people to pander to. No one gives a shit about people who don't vote, because they have absolutely zero influence on elections. The *only* way to break up the corruption and uniformity is to vote.DinnerX wrote:They probably wouldn't care. It's not about reaching the populous. If enough citizens don't vote, and there ends up being a VERY low voting rate, wouldn't that send a message that the politicians are not reaching the populous and that maybe something needs to change?Michi wrote:Better to vote for a third party candidate than not vote at all.

Unless there are a very noticeable number of protests. The "I'm not voting for the lesser of two evils" protest? I don't know. That might be one potential way to make a strong statement without voting. I mean, why vote for someone you don't really believe in?* Of course, if you do believe in the third party, then of course vote for them! I think the two party system is retarded, to be honest. Up here in the north, we've pretty much always has 3-5 strong parties to vote for. People here don't seem as polarized as in The States for some reason.Jrecee wrote:Not voting at all makes no statement.
*Yes, I am aware of the concept of voting against someone you don't like just so they will have less of a chance. I'm not saying I like that option either, though.

If you truly despise every candidate running, including 3rd party, you still have the write-in option.Breetai wrote:Unless there are a very noticeable number of protests. Only one more day! I'm actually far more sick of my senate race (McCaskill vs Akin) than the presidential race. I've been getting one or more ads for either candidate in the mail every day for a week now.

CNN did an incredible job with explaining how your vote kinda sorta counts:

I've said it once, and I'll say it again...
If you do not vote, then you have no grounds for complaining about your elected representatives. Voting and jury service are the only duties of an American citizen, and the proper functioning of our democracy depends upon you fulfilling your duties.
Please vote in tomorrow's election. I think that, if you do, you will find it to be a rewarding experience and that you will make a point of voting in every subsequent election.
