Time does wonders. Leave them opened up for a week or two, the rest of the smell will leave over time.

Not true. I bought a used copy of Soul Coughing - Ruby Vroom (I suppose that's appropriate) that absolutely reeked of stale smoke. After about a year of sitting on the shelf normally and being opened for play every now and then the smell mostly went away. After a few years I couldn't smell anything anymore.
This...

Wash the parts that are washable with some dish detergent. Fold the case open in such a way that air can pass between both plastic layers - case itself and thin top layer that holds the cover. Leave the case like that for a few weeks. Do the same with the disc, booklet and cover...

Neat thread. I recently got a few smokey items myself - hopefully I can start the de-smoking process this weekend.

I have a GameCube console that reeked heavily of smoke when I bought it. I opened it up, blew all the dust out with compressed air, and cleaned both the plastic parts and circuitry (I think I used rubbing alcohol and water/vinegar). After I put the console back together I placed it in a shoebox with two open baking soda boxes. I duct-taped the shoebox shut so it was airtight and didn't open it for a month. It didn't smell anymore after that.

With games, I recommend letting them air outside for a while. If they still reek, you can purchase replacement GameCube cases. Here are some, for example:

Shoot me a PM if interested.
Haha, nice try buddy. I bought all of these on ebay for 40 dollars... :D As for the smoke, im trying to let all of the games air out in the garage for a while. I guess if it is not gone after a week or so I'll try some other tactics.

I've been pretty lucky with most of my purchases, as they rarely have any odors outside of like... that pawn shop smell. However, I got a Nintendo Power issue that absolutely reeks of smoke. I'll have to try something on it.

Can someone tell a n00b like me where to get my hands on some of this activated charcoal stuff? From what I've read it does wonders.

Any chain stores keep it in stock consistently? I've read that pet stores carry it...? :?

It's used to keep the "reptile" smell out of turtle and lizzard tanks. It's also used in some cat litters. Try Petsmart. They should sell it in a bottle.

Thanks, Slaya. I will keep an eye out.

I wonder if anyone else has ever tried an air purifier. I have a couple of cords and a game that reeked of smoke. Last night I tossed them in a box with an air purifier cranked to the max. I partially closed the box, leaving the part above the purifier outtake open. Within a couple of hours the stank was cut by about 25%. 18 hours later, I can barely smell anything.
