Cars, used vs new, etc?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

@Joeyg329: Thanks for all the info. Yeah it was a 1996 Acura TL 3.2 that needed the head gasket. The parts have always been expensive on it and I know some people have complained about some of the work they had to do on it, the alternator was tough.

I cleaned the car out and dug up all my receipts, I think in this year alone I probably dropped at least $2,000 on it. Damn...

I'm going to be honest, it's kind of a young man's dream thing here, but I've always liked Mitsubishi 3000GT's. I'm seeing a few in the KS area under 4 grand, some are close to that which is pushing it for me but I could maybe pull it off. I did some research and the reviews for these cars, 1991-1999 basically all sound pretty awesome. I was seeing a lot of comparisons to the Mazda RX7, or Nissan 300ZX, most favored those but I really like the looks of the 3000GT a lot more personally. I also did read that the parts for them can be expensive, which was not fun in my Acura, but maybe it's still doable.

Kind of a little dream thing, that I could maybe make a reality haha. It'd be strange going from a bigger sedan to a little thing, but yeah. I'm sure it'd be fun and my insurance would be pretty cheap for it, I'd think? I know 2-doors seems to lower that. I was only paying $56 or something for my Acura. If I can stay in that range that's awesome.

Here's a few 3000GT's that caught my eye:

http://topeka.craigslist.org/cto/3380063910.html (I've always liked the teal color)
http://stjoseph.craigslist.org/cto/3380540948.html (looks like the driver side door is dented a little? But that is quite a price).

@SoloTek: As you can maybe tell with what I've written above there, yeah I think I am 100% now set on just going used, buying owner directly or if there's some good local traders around. Even if a car only lasts me a few years, that's fine. I could do it again if need be. I'd just rather have low insurance, no payments right now that I've just moved out so I can keep more money in my pocket, and then I'll get a credit card or something soon to build credit that way. Thus, if I needed a car again in the future, with good credit I'm sure I'd have much better options than I do now.

~$460 total for that Sonata a month was going to kill me, but I am 110% positive if I can get something used with no payments and lower insurance, I will definitely be able to build good credit in the coming years. Always been good with money, I always have that cushion, etc. I splurged on that Sonata initially obviously, but then my gut hit me and taking it back felt like the right thing to do for sure.

If cost is a concern, stay far away from the 3000gt.

I looked into buying one, but, there's a reason I didn't.

Insurance isn't very good. Nor is gas. Nor are parts.

Yeah that doesn't look bad.

Could be right Ryan, haha. Maybe I can consider it in the future, but for now something more normal and stable is probably for the best.

2 doors always have higher insurance. Yeah, Dodge Stealth is like the identical car, dont see many of either around here.

Whelp, I just got in touch with a mother wanting to sell a 1995 Honda Civic EX for $2250, 150k miles. Not bad at all, guess she was fixing it up a lot for her daughter to use for awhile, but then their grandfather passed away so the family inherited another car and are getting rid of the Honda. Her son turns out to be a mechanic too so I guess he was fixing some stuff on it and she made it sound like they'll have that all done before giving it away. Just heard about this from some random person on FB I know through some community, so got the jump on this since it's low key and she hasn't advertised much.

Honda was always on my heart, haha. Just might be the one I guess, wouldn't hurt my wallet too much.

Another day for the 3000GT perhaps...
