Nintendo 3DS
Re: Nintendo 3DS
Good luck getting out of the water temple without using a FAQ. I wouldn't say the 3d is worth it unless you really like OOT.

The difficulty ot the water temple is vastly overrated.BlackDS wrote:Good luck getting out of the water temple without using a FAQ. I wouldn't say the 3d is worth it unless you really like OOT.

This. At worst you have to manipulate the water a few times because you did something stupid like jump off the edge or raise the water without exploring everything. At that point it just becomes tedious, rather than difficult. The only enemies that are even a threat are the doom clams because of the narrow spaces you sometimes fight them in.alienjesus wrote:The difficulty ot the water temple is vastly overrated.BlackDS wrote:Good luck getting out of the water temple without using a FAQ. That's good to know. I guess I'll see if I can finish it out.AppleQueso wrote: You're like 2/3 through the game

And apparently the 3DS version makes it much less of a pain, by allowing you to take on and off the iron boots with a touch of the screen.MrPopo wrote:This. DSi XL and 3DS XL are the same for playing DS games -- screen size is identical, everything looks the same. The only difference is the sound (DSi XL can reach a much louder volume).Nintendork666 wrote:Nintendork666 wrote:There's mixed opinions online of how the 3DS XL displays DS visuals. I know it retains the ratio, but I've heard there's still sort of a "washed out" look, especially with 2d games (http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9112058). But then I hear the exact opposite, saying the visuals have cleared up compared to the original 3DS, and are basically the same as the DSi XL aside from the black bars which retain the ratio ( ).
The circle pad (and ability to play 3DS titles) justifies the price difference for me between the 3DS XL and it's last-gen counterpart, but not if the DS games don't appear as originally intended.
It's probably been discussed in this thread before, but would anyone care to re-clarify this for me? I'd love to hear some personal experience.
Quoted to bump my question. Anyone with a 3DS XL, please respond.
Thank you.
I personally prefer to play DS games on my DSi XL, because I dislike the black bars, but that's just a personal preference. YMMV?

There's a difference. The DS, DSi & XL have a screen resolution of 256 × 192.irixith wrote: DSi XL and 3DS XL are the same for playing DS games -- screen size is identical, everything looks the same. The only difference is the sound (DSi XL can reach a much louder volume).

The 3DS has a resolution of 320×240 pixels.
So unless you chose the 1:1 mapping, the 3DS uses a filter which looks fine for some games but not others. But if you use the 1:1 mapping, you have the black bars that you speak of and the picture is a bit smaller.
So for playing the DS games, the DSi XL is superior to the 3DS XL.

The hardest part of the temple was the sheer amount of keys there were in the temple. It seemed like every damn door was locked, and there would always be no key in sight.MrPopo wrote:This. Re: Nintendo 3DS
I just started playing it again and I'm not ashamed to admit that I had to look at an FAQ because I forgot so many details of the game. I also back-tracked to get the Zora tunic since the time limit swimming under water made the game painful. I'm pretty close to finishing the Water Temple. I have to say that it's a very impressive dungeon design. I liked the one room with the dragon heads that you had to move up & down.gtmtnbiker wrote: That's good to know. I also received my copies of Paper Mario Sticker Star and started playing it. Looks pretty good thus far.

Crashmo (Fallblox), the sequel to Pushmo was released in the US store yesterday. It's $8.99 and looks to be interesting.
Here's the gameplay video.
