Technical problem with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

I recently got a copy of Yoshi's Island on Ebay. Whenever I try to play it it wont get past the introduction sequence. It doesn't even complete that sequence and automatically resets itself over and over again. I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and q-tips but this hasn't helped any. Any ideas?

Try cleaning the console's pins as well. Pay more attention to the two outer groups of pins. They rarely get used, giving them the potential to be more dirty.
