Shoot from the hip reaction:

Gamestop Kids will be a flash in the pan.

You know what kids hate being called? Kids. Who isn't paying full retail price and per-ordering the games that offer the most roi to Gamestop? Kids.

What is Gamestop trying to accomplish with this? Why limit the selection of games at a store, which will lead to fewer purchases? Going to multiple stores doesn't equal multiple purchases. Wouldn't it be a better idea to use existing shelf space to simply create an "E Aisle" or "Kid Zone"?

Luke is probably right.

Not to mention the fact that some of the most popular games amongst kids are M-rated. All my 7 year old students talk about is Call of Duty.

Kids like what the older kids and teenagers like. It's always been that way.

You never know. GameStop had to see a business model they think might be profitable, but as Apple pointed out kids can't wait to grow up. Just like watching an R rated movie, playing a game rated M is like a badge of honor to kids and even teenagers.

I'm making assumptions, but I vision kids as young as 7/8 walking past Gamestop Kids and telling their parents, "But Mom and Dad, that's the store for kids". If I had the keys to the car, rename it with the buzz word of the month "EPIC GAMES", rebrand it as not a kids store but THE Place for games rated T and under, and add a gimmick such as "Get the game your Son wants, and in under five minutes. Guaranteed." and then they might have something.

True true. When I was a kid all my favorite games were rated T or M.

Something that would certainly fit under the *ugly*,

Game Stop manager charged with fraud

This would be considered the "local" GS for me, although I've never been there.

His mugshot alone fits under "ugly".

While I agree with this, I still wish there was one closer to me so that I could at least go and look at it. I probably wouldn't purchase any games, but their toy selection looks like it'd be fun to browse through.

Is there a possibility that these new Gamestop Kids are just geared for the holiday rush, much like ToysRUs does with their "express" locations?

The stores will probably be more than just kids games. It will probably have all kinds of video game related kiddie merchandise, too, like toys, candy, coloring books, t-shirts, posters, etc.
