Hey guys!
I decided to 50/60hz mod my PAL Saturn model 2 (round buttons). The console isn't used much and it was in excellent shape. I have successfully modded a handful of consoles and I know how to solder and manage my cabling.
When I opened my Saturn I did not see any jumpers pads near the battery compartment. So I decided to do mmmonkey's saturn mod. It involves lifting the 79th pin on the IC14 chip (the only chip with 160 pins) and connecting that pin to switch, with 5v+ and Ground on the sides of the switch.
I did the mod exactly as specified in the tutorial. The pin is lifted correctly and is not touching the other pins. The cables are not being crushed when the console is assembled. So I decided to test the consoles...
When I boot the console the power LED lightens up but I get no video or audio. The disc drive is working, but the laser reads a bit and then goes back to the center. The disc keeps spinning. I am using an PAL game disc that is tested and is guaranteed to work. The AV cable and power cable work, they have also been tested on a working console.
Does anybody know what this is?
UPDATE:
As I reassembled the Saturn I forgot the piece of plastic that goes between the power board and the RF/heat shielding(?). Could this be the cause of my problems?
In short;
no video and audio
disc keeps spinning
power led lights up
I removed the 50/60hz switch. Only pin 79 is lifted. Apart from that, the saturn is not modified anymore. Still not working...

Can anyone help? I really don't want to ditch this Saturn
Re: Saturn PAL model not working! Help?
That plastic sheet that goes on the bottom of the PSU board is supposed to insulate the solder joints from the RF shielding. If it's not there and some of the solder joints are touching the shielding, then that could cause the problems you're having.

Re: Saturn PAL model not working! Help?
I tested the console again. This time with the plastic shielding.
But no dice. The same symptoms
I could get my hands on a Saturn model 2 with a broken disc drive.
Would swapping parts with the broken model get me a working Saturn?
