If your backups work with the swap method, than it seems to indicate that the mod chip is not working correctly.
Is your unit 32 or 64 pins?

Re: Saturn MOD Chip not working.
i recommend Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs which is what i use , they have very low PI/PE error rates when burned with a great burner.
when i got my first SS console the Racketboy chip i got didnt work so i bought another one and then it worked it was frustrating but finally got there.
i then bought 9 more SS consoles and installed Robb Webb's modchip to 8 of them and all work great.
he has been asked by Paypal to remove the modchip from his site but he still stocks them , im guessing he still sells them but needs a different type of payment.
his site is below , if you are still getting nowhere with your current chip maybe try out Robb Webb's

Re: Saturn MOD Chip not working.
I had my dad do this about a year ago after nearly losing my sanity with the switch trick, in the framework of which I read up a lot about the Saturn.
My dad, now retired, spent his career fixing small electronics and said it was a piece of cake (model 2, can't remember the # of pins). And my region patched back up of Batsugun worked flawlessly on the first boot.
I feel for you man. Seriously, odds are it's your console. From what I read, Saturns can be very iffy. Some dude somewhere wrote that he had two Saturns, and that the one would refuse to play back ups and even some original games, while the other played a copy of Panzer Dragoon with a big ol' crack down the middle of the disc perfectly fine. Other posters have reported laser issues as well. Apparently, there's a small red switch that you can turn to power up the laser, and doing this just a teeny tiny itsy bitsy bit may possibly fix your problem.
I seriously suggest picking up another Saturn, it's probably cheaper than a mod chip anyway.
Additionally, I highly doubt it has anything to do with burning speeds and programs or CD brands. I've made hundreds of backups on hundreds of computers using hundreds of different CDs, including some cheap ones I picked up at a gas station. Everything so far has worked perfectly fine for PSX and Saturn (there have been issues with the Dreamcast, Imgburn didn't work for some games, other programs did). I don't think this is your problem.
And good luck, once you get it working you're in for a treat.

Re: Saturn MOD Chip not working.
Thank you all for your support, this is life I guess. Time to check the local game stores for another Saturn. I would like to stay a customer of RacketBoy, he has something good going here and has been really accommodating to the problems I've been having. I may pick up an S-Video cable for the SS sometime in the future if he still has in stock. Would like to convert the darn thing to component.
Bought a Composite to HDMI converter box from China some time ago and works great. Keeps the scanlines together on my 42" LCD. I also have a 38" LED and looks just as good(Without the box) going through the standard connectors. The signals coming out of the SS cannot just be fitted with any HD video adapter and expect them to work. The signals need to be converted to the input your plugging into.
Again thanks everyone!

I'm still interested in knowing which type of Saturn you have. I've heard that the 64-pins were harder to get working with a mod chip.

Heh, just for the sake of giggles, what if I kept A and B together and pulled the signal cable to the 14th pin? If there is anyone knowledgeable I can mabe ship my whole system to and see if they have any better luck with it I'd be grateful. I could even send supplies along with it to help. Thanks!

I could take a look, but it seems you've been doing things right.
FWIW I'm in Texas and there might be some people in California who would be willing to look, which could be cheaper shipping or maybe if you're really lucky, local.

Re: Saturn MOD Chip not working.
You should never solder the power wire to the PIN on the PSU, you should remove the PSU and solder the power wire to the bottom of the PSU.
PSone, Xbox, PS2, DC, SS Mod Service, PM for details
Re: Saturn MOD Chip not working.
I may try increasing the laser sensitivity and/or the disc read speed control to see if that improves anything. But I am still up to requests for help so yes if there is someone in California that can help send me a private message. I will let known of my progress with anything I do. The copper test clips I used seem to work so far as my system is still able to run original games while they are connected. Messages and YT videos suggest trying these methods but with a possibility of burning out the laser and CD drive system prematurely if done incorrectly. Itty bitty turns.
