I think I had this up there because on the japanese version you can use the ram cart to make the game load more frames.
I will look further into it because I find this strange. Why does MSH have this option in its US release but not COTA??? And it's not as simple to just check the options menu on JPN COTA as for some dumb reason, the game options screen is all in Japanese (why the fuck did they do that for!).

I think a bigger question is why so many of these japan-only games have full english options menus with no japanese at all...

I'd actually go with the Saturn version of UMK3. Because the port on the MKA Premium Edition has horrendous slowdown!

The best home version of MK2 was definetly the 32X version. It had the Genesis' gameplay with the SNES' graphics and audio!

Capcom vs SNK 2 looks miles better on the DC than on the PS2.

CDAGES made a pretty good post about the Saturn version of UMK3 in a different thread:
CD AGES wrote: Yes, MK II was a dissapointment on the Saturn. Lots of missing audio samples and dreaded loading that occurs during specials much like Apple has mentioned. UMK3 port looks good at first glance but its also a piece of shit port if you ask me. The stupid developers who handled the SAT conversion took the code for PSX port of MK3 and simply added to it (and they didn't even pull this off correctly as MK3 levels that aren't in UMK3 linger as well as a Noob Saibot that is still modeled by Kano as oppose to a proper ninja that you see in UMK3). The end result it a game that doesn't play like MK3 or its update. Balance is thrown out the window with glitches galore and combos that shouldn't even work like (infinite galore!). MKT on the saturn is decent though althoigh doesn't run as smooth as the PSX version.
There really isn't a single MK port on par with the better Street Fighter ports out there. Such a shame.

It still has a lot of genesis sound effects iirc, so it's not quite "the SNES' audio". I agree though, It's far from arcade perfect or anything, but it's probably still the best home port of the game considering how buggy the MAT2 version is.

Yeah, the PS2 port found in the Premium Edtion MKA does have some slowdown, but thats about the only major problem. The SAT version unfortunately has WAY too many issues going for it (For goodness sakes people, the devs were So lazy that they ended up using an identical user interface that PS1 port of MK3 had... right down to the games MK3 logo. ITS UMK3 MOTHERFUCKERS! Get it right :? )

Agree completely with Apple. The games music still sounds identical to the GEN version. The major improvements to the 32X version comes in the form of improved SFX audio, a smoother frame count, and the inclusion of a crouching Low Punh animation which the GEN version unfortunately had removed. I still think that my choices suggested for MK II was far more acceptable though.

But the Saturn version of MK2 was broken as hell, man! Tons of missing frames and completely re-done audio. Loading times...

That port was straight up garbage.

Nobody is saying otherwise in respects to MK II on SAT, but I find it funny that a lot of these issues you've listed here also apply to UMK3 on SAT. Some Frames are missing here and there, balance does not exist in this game at all and Loading times feel just as bad as MK II or worse (and yet you say this version is more definitive than the PS2 MKA version simply because of a little slowdown?) O_o

Play the Xbox version. This compilation runs and performs the best in this platform. Avoid PS2 MAT2.

The start button issue that makes it impossible to fight Smoke in that version is a bit of a deal breaker for me, but I'll keep that in mind. By the time I get an xbox however I'll have something much better anyway.
