iOS ports?

Post by Xeogred »

Is there a comprehensive list out there or anything? Any ports to avoid or check out? Which ones run best on a small iphone (compared to a tablet or something)?

It seems like all of Sega's games are currently jacked up (4S here) or something, Shinobi 3 crashes instantly when I try to start it up. I'm seeing people say this in reviews for pretty much every Sega port currently.

The Doom port is pretty awesome.

Anyways, just curious since I'd probably check out a few instead of random original iOS games out there (although Lep's World is pretty awesome).

The best ones are this:

Carmageddon
Lost Winds
Marathon series
Beat Hazard
The 7th. Guest (The developers are also porting Tender Loving Care)
Myst and Riven
Dragon's Lair
Beneath A Steel Sky
Cave SHMUP's (They work disturbingly well, to the point where I'd rather play Dodonpachi with a touch screen instead of a controller)

The iOS version of Lunar is supposed to be good. From what I've read, it's basically the Working Designs PlayStation version reworked with a touchscreen interface.

Personally, I don't care for games that use an onscreen "gamepad." The lack of any tactile feedback makes for a very frustrating time.
My games for sale: Racketboy, Amazon, eBay
My systems: NES, Nintendo 64, GameCube (Game Boy Player), Wii / Game & Watch: Ball, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP (x2), Nintendo DSi / Genesis (Sega CD, 32X), Saturn / Game Gear / PlayStation, PlayStation 2 / Xbox / Mac (Windows PC) / iPhone, iPad

Baldur's gate is coming out soon if I recall correctly. There's also Max Payne and Sonic CD
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I'm not too big on it either, or handheld gaming in general really. But one of the biggest reasons why I got a smart phone was to have something to do on my work breaks, lol.

I definitely want to grab Sonic CD sometime, I'll hold off on Sega games until I hear about a fix though.

Not a retro game, but the Ghost Trick port is pretty great. In general, games that don't need/use digital versions of buttons and d-pads tend to work better on the iOS.

The iOS version of Toki Tori is pretty good, based on what I played of the free version. It's basically the WiiWare remake (of the GBC original) with touch controls.
