It's mostly the laser drive assembly that's making the noise. If you coat the laser sled contacts and the worm gear with white lithium grease it quiets the system a decent amount, I've done it myself. Keep in mind that some DC's are quieter than others by default. Earlier model 1's and 0's are generally quieter than the later model 1's and 2's, regardless of this trick.
