people? in the room?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

people? in the room?

Post by nickfil »

My buddy gave me his broken 360. I'm in the process of fixing it up. It works fine now, but the laser is kinda worn out so i ordered a new one and i'm going to pop that bad boy in there as soon as it ships from nyc.

So i'm poking around gamestop looking for the best way to hook this console up and get a HD signal out of it. I get a few things at first that didn't really work. This third party thing that plugged into the back with a bunch more fans and usbs and stuff like that. Plugged in the component and vga. Looked like shit. They also sold me component cables for the first xbox.... So bring that back- and tell them what i'm trying to do. I settle on microsoft's VGA plug. Looks great by the way.

Anyway- the point. I'm in there talking to the guy about how i want to set up a monitor rather than my HD tv. He asks why. I tell him I already have an HD set and xbox, that i want a low cost second so i can play co-op resident evil 5 with a friend of mine. Then he said something that stuck me as odd. "Wait a second. In the same room?"

Yes. Imagine that. Playing video games in the same room with someone. How far we've fallen from the days of spending hours with a friend (in the same room mind you) playing sonic 2.

I think the point is that he was wondering "Why don't they just share a screen instead of using two X360s and two tvs?"

Cheers for the repaired 360 though. :D

To me playing with friends in the same room is the best experience and beats online anyday. We usually play a lot of 4 screen split games and its so annoying and torturing that is part of the fun. We used to play halo 2 years ago and we revived it this year, it usually is a 6-10 hour gaming session involving 1 or 2 tvs , 4-8 players locally hooked up with xlink kai to have more players, but even with only 4 is still a blast. Last time we did it we got ourselves a borrowed projector and having this big screen for each was mindblowing. Yes its nice to have your own screen but I'll sacrifice screen size anyday over having a partner you can scream at, kick, punch and thrashtalk to.

Now since most of the time you don't want to setup and hook up everything for gaming because its a chore or you don't have space what we mostly do is ad hoc gaming sessions with psps. We do this a lot and is usually more practical because almost everybody has psp, so we have been able to do 8-9 player killzone and bomberman matches.

A few months ago I tried with a friend to do co-op monster hunter but eventually I was left alone and got addicted, played for months then left it because it was the only thing I was playing. About 2 weeks ago finally everybody got on board and they are all hooked like crack playing, trying to get to my levels and yesterday we were doing some 4 player hunts and today we will continue.
